A Statistical Peek Into OU's Mediocre Slide

If reading the facts that Sooner04 has presented here doesn't convince you that OU men's BB is as low now as it had been in almost three decades, nothing will. If someone out there can offer a nugget of hope to cheer me up, please don't keep it to yourself. I want to believe, I really do!
I hope somebody sends a copy of 04's post over to Joe. I am looking forward to that beer.

"Jeff Capel has finished below .500 in two of his four full seasons at Oklahoma. This team will be his third to finish below .500 in the Big 12 Conference." is easily among the 5 worst Beatles lyrics ever written. It doesn't even rhyme.

Hysterical.

As for this post...great work Sooner04. Truly staggering numbers.

I just threw up a little in my mouth. Last year's disaster = snowball effect for possibly half a decade.

Thank you.

After reading your post, a person(s) would have to be totally blind or basketball ignorant ( I can think of sever never mind lol) to think Jeff deserves one more season to turn things around. After reading through those stats, several words come to mind. Disappointing. Unacceptable. Failure.

IMO, Joe C deserves more criticism than Jeff for the mess the program is in. If Joe wants to continue this EXPERIMENT for another season, then he should be willing to put his job on the line. He needs to put his ego aside and admit he made a mistake.

It is def. disappointing and all the other adjectives you used.

However, your vendetta against Joe C. will continue to fall on deaf ears. The good by far outweighs the bad in OU athletics. On the top of all that as long as Bob Stoops and company keep up what they are doing Joe C. can do no wrong. Which is exactly the reason why he can/will give Capel one more year. B/c hes got way too much capital built up with the admin/fans/donors for his "experiment" to matter to them. Just how it is.

The Beatles lyric hidden near the top of 04's post is in bold ("For No One" by the Beatles):

"Your day breaks, your mind aches
You find that all her words of kindness linger on
When she no longer needs you
She wakes up, she makes up
She takes her time and doesn't feel she has to hurry
She no longer needs you
And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years
You want her, you need her
And yet you don't believe her
When she says her love is dead
You think she needs you
And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years
You stay home, she goes out
She says that long ago she knew someone but now
He's gone, she doesn't need him
Your day breaks, your mind aches
There will be times when all the things she said will fill her head
You won't forget her
And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years "

A "love that should have lasted years" is what we came to know clear back to the Barnett/Little days.

Don't you think he has already seen it? The media has. There will be some fact checking tonight and similar story before the end of the season.

The statistics are so staggering that they don't seem real. The agony of watching one's beloved basketball program fade into oblivion is very real.

This gets worse everytime I read it. It just plain sucks fellas. I feel bad for all the former players, coaches, and the hardcore fans.

Nice work, NMSooner'80. A fine track from Revolver, For No One.

Here are a few more stats I've compiled:

1. From the beginning of the Big 12 in 1997 through Jeff Capel's arrival in the fall of 2006, OU was 12-18 on the road against the Big 12 North. Jeff Capel on the road against the Big 12 North is 3-12.

2. Jeff Capel has never won in Austin, Lawrence, Columbia, Lincoln or Boulder.

3. Jeff Capel is 10-29 in his career at Oklahoma versus ranked opponents.

4. Jeff Capel is 6-27 in his career at Oklahoma when facing a team ranked higher than OU.

Might be the best Beatles song ever. This one or Here There and Everywhere also on Revolver.

Depressing:(

Uggg...that's SOOO depressing. To use some Van Halen lyrics...where have all the good times gone...

Of course, it would also be important to fill some of the blanks in...

Look at the worst years under the other coaches. What caused it? Wasn't 91 the year after the Mr. Hill screwed up all of our players' eligibility? Kind of reminds me of 2006-07.

Not sure about 1994's team.

Heh...not quite.

It was 90/91 that Tom Hill caused a bunch of the players to transfer due to they were going to be ineligible. However, the 90/91 team advanced to the NIT and even played in the NIT final in NYC. Not to mention, eventual national champion Duke came to Norman and the sooners only lost that game by 5 points (anybody besides me remember that was the game when the band director started running all over the court during timeouts to get the fans fired up?).

I was at that game and very drunk.

According to Soonerstats.com, the 89-90 team was highly rated (finished the season #1 I think). At the end of that year, they were decimated by "Thom Hill-gate". The next year, they finished 20-15, tied for 6th in the Big 8.
