Anthony Grant never had to coach at VCU without Eric Maynor, recruited by Capel who by the end of his freshman year was knocking on the door to stardom. From his soph year on he was an NBA 1st round pick running the point in the CAA, basically unheard of. The funny thing is, Maynor wanted to follow Capel to OU, but Capel told him to stay and stick it out because he didn't want to stab VCU in the back. I bet we would have thrown a fit if after hiring a mid-major coach for cheap one of his first acts was to give a schollie to a mid-major pg. But how interesting would it have been to watch Maynor throw alleys to Blake after sitting out the 06-07 season? Just a what if few people know about.

PG- Maynor
SG- Warren
SF- Crocker
PF- Griffin
C- Griffin

Austin Johnson, Cade Davis and Juan Patillo first guys off the bench. Not a bad team at all, still not enough to make it past UNC; however, probably enough to be a #1 seed and play them in the FF instead of Elite Eight. Ultimately, I think either way we were the second best team in the country that year.

All we needed to do to upset UNC was shoot better. If Crocker had had another game like he did against Syracuse, we might have pulled it off.

I'm with you on that, but that UNC team may have had the most dominating run through the NCAA in my lifetime. I still think we were the second best team in the country that year. If we could have locked up a #1 seed, we'd have probably played them better in the FF.

Not sure we'd have gotten Willie. Pretty sure I remember him wanting to go somewhere that didn't have a true pg, b/c that is what he wanted to play.

Maybe, maybe not. We'll never know.
