Add PC West's Tyler Neal to the list of possible spring signees

-in-state kid
-above average game
-smart dude
-hard-worker
-"team first" attitude
-great player on a good HS team
-reportedly coachable

What some of you don't understand is that the above is worth it's weight in gold. Especially compared to what some big-name recruits around the country don't bring to programs.

If Capel wants him, I want him. Period.

Bookout was very strong and tough... Bookout did not have to be fast with the way he played... Nothing this kid does resembles bookout

:ez-laugh: I started to add "in 3-2-1 someone will come along and say, he doesn't play like Bookout!".

Some of you guys are funny.

Meaning what? If you don't think OU should pursue the kid, that's fine. But I saw plenty to like about his game. I could be wrong, too. But that's no big deal either. It wouldn't be the first time.

On the video the dude looks skinny, not very quick, did not look like he had a mean side to him, and he shot alot of threes.... We dont need another kid like this! He fills no needs! We don't need another guy that wants to Jack threes up... We need lowpost enforcers... That's were capel should be spending his time... This is just silly

Lucky, you were watching a highlight video that showed a series of threes Neal took and then switched to feature his inside and short range game. If all you watched was the first three minutes, I can see why you thought all he did was "jack up threes."

I should also point out that OU hasn't offered the kid yet. Capel was there to check him out. His interest in Neal doesn't mean that our coaches don't plan to sign a couple of bigs if they can. If we strike out with the other recruits on our list, this kid could help to give us more depth next year. If you don't believe that, better take a closer look at our roster.

If we are having to recruit kids like this so they are easier to coach for capel then maybe capel needs to re-evaluate himself...a good coach installs discipline...youdont see kentucky having problems with all their scorers

the one thing capel had on some coaches is that he is a good recruiter, if he is going to start to get guys like this he no longer has this on other coaches...and we know as of right now he is not as good at the X's and O's and obviously has problems controlling his team...capel cannot let a couple bad eggs change the fact that talent is a must no matter how you look at it....

You guys are all setting a double standard....everyone was so happy that capel was signing talent...now we dont want him to? His job is to coach that talent and he is not doing that...its not the kids fault that noone is crackign the whip..gallon/tmg whoever is going to get away with what they can and capel is letting them get away with stuff

Exactly. And what Ada said is spot on. I was suprised after I watched the video's to scroll down and read all this. I thought he looked to be a player. A 6'7 guy with that kind of stroke. Ryan Minor was the same way...he was a great player. I think he'd be a real solid get...especially under the circumstances of the roster that is out there this year.

Who is being silly now? Show me where anyone said they didn't want Capel to sign talented players.

Exactly. You need role players too. And an in-state 4.1 GPA 6'7 kid that is a great outside shooter is a great role player. Reminded me a bit of Luke Axtell.

Exactly my point, Cheno. There are no guarantees on our April recruiting list that I'm aware of, and I danged sure don't want to go into next season with no help at all.

Does that mean I wouldn't prefer T. Jones, Aziz and maybe a player like Ross? Who wouldn't take them over someone like Neal. But I'm also a realist who knows that Capel had better have a back up plan or we're in big trouble next year. I don't want to go into next season knowing there is no one on our current roster we can depend on, aside from the players who were among the first nine in our rotation this year and the two recruits we have coming in. If for some reason Tiny doesn't come back, our problems with depth will only get worse.

I have no idea what some of the people on this thread are thinking?

impressive video. similar skill set to hummel from purdue imo. Nice stroke from deep with good midrange and inside game using both his left and right hand. The oop he caught showed me he has plenty of athleticism. He had a couple behind the back passes that were nice and fluid. He caught up to several players from behind before swatting their easy lay up into the stands. 4.1 gpa and a 35 inch vertical with that type of range..yes please!

I know that was exactly what I was thinking....then I scroll down and read some of this crap.

The big wild care here is exactly how many scholarships we will need to fill by next year. Coach obviously has a better idea than any of us (The whole picture that is). So if some of the guys have already decided to transfer or just take there changes in the draft or overseas then so be it. We should wish them well and go on. We just won't know until what May?

Capel was recruiting Evan Wessell from Wichita Heights and people didn't seem to have a problem with it. This kid is bigger and looks better to me.

Neal is better than Hardrick. Personally I liked he Fields kid. Saw both at OU's elit camp. I wonder if they're taking a look at "Big O" Faulk as well.

That #40 kid on the videos to me looks more of what we need...he likes to stay downlow and looks athletic....to bad he is not available

You have to remember that video was from his JR year. He has put on some good weight. My HS coach is the coach now at PC West and has done a great job with the program. I've been able to see them play and came away extremely impressed with Tyler Neal. What's funny is when I watched him play it was Fields who was shooting 3's (and making them) and Neal was absolutely dominating the paint.

He reminded me of a more skilled Taylor Griffin. They are about the exact same size, though TG had more weight and was a bit more athletic (though not much in HS). Neal and Fields are exactly the types of guys that we have been saying are perfect to fill out classes with. They are both better than Kyle Hardrick and will be really nice 4 year players at the mid-major level for sure and could definitely contribute for high major schools.

Neal has been dominating 6A this year. He shoots well, rebounds well, can finish with either hand around the basket. He has terrific footwork for a big man both in the post and on the perimeter. The games I watched him he had at least 2 dunks in both games. Two stood out: one was a pump fake on the baseline with one dribble into a dunk, the other was a fast break alley oop that he caught one handed and threw it down.

He is perfect at this point because he will be able to play down low as he bulks up but moves well enough to put him at the 3 depending on matchups.

He also played for Athlete's First last summer so it's not as if he hasn't been tagged as a high level player.

If that is the case he is exactly what we need..but i didnt see that from the video...we need a downlow guy mentality....what i want is a more athletic fitz...
but if this kid resembles taylor griffin then yes he does fit a need

Exactly. We need more hard working, high character kids. Even if they never start, they can push those who do start to keep improving. I'd rather have a 4* talent that had a 5* work ethic than a 5* talent who doesn't work.

:clap

I am sick to death of all these off the court issues that seemed to have plagued our team as of late.

Lucky, watch both videos carefully from start to finish and you will see what some of us have been talking about. I wouldn't say Neal is as athletic as Taylor was in high school. He is not as quick off his feet, nor does he have TG's leaping ability. But a 35 inch vertical is nothing to be ashamed of.

I will say he is a lot more skilled than Taylor at this point of his career. Keep in mind that TG was not a good mid-range or three point shooter even as a senior at OU. Neal is already good at both, and as Grace said, these videos were shot during his junior year. I really believe this kid has a chance to be a very good player in time.
