Asst Coach Search update?

You don't see any red flags with Pooh?

Honestly, I don't pretend to know. You, on the other hand, pronounced him "a shady recruiter" who has "no value as a coach," claiming he'd coached for "18 schools."

I can agree that it's a bit odd that he's coached at 12 schools (not 18) over 24 years, but has he ever been accused of shady tactics? I can't find any instances of that, and I would think we'd know it he had. Has he personally been fired from any of his jobs? I don't know, but again, I can't find any reference to that happening. So why did you feel the need to resort to accusations and exaggerations?

Some people -- coaches and non- -- just like to keep on the move and tend to move from place to place, job to job (our head coach has historically been just such a person). If we got two or three constructive years out of Williamson, I'd be ok with that.

Here's a Tulsa World story from 2018 that talks about his enduring relationship with Tubby Smith, who is certainly considered a man of good character.

Job #13 coming up. Worked at Miami for an impressive 1 year.

If someone applies to my company has had 12 jobs that are essentially the same position, I wouldn't hire him. The only reason you consider him is because of AAU connections or something. his value as a coach is clearly minimal.

I'd hire Steve Eck from Hutchinson CC... 83% winning percentage as a head coach... Before his run at Hutchinson, he coached at Redlands (including Taj Gray) and was 182-22 there as a head coach. He has 582 junior college wins and is from the area.

He would give us unbelievable knowledge in the local juco circuit plus a guy who really knows how to coach basketball and develop talent.

Most of those jobs he was following the coach getting a promotion.... Richard Dumass....

Pooh’s nomadic coaching career doesn’t bother me. I think it’s reasonable to assume his experience and the contacts he made while at some of these schools could be an asset. Nine years at four different stops in Texas can’t possibly be all bad. Memphis and Miami are recruiting hotbeds. So is Wichita. He’s an Oklahoma boy and a TU grad. That should be enough to get his foot in the door with high school coaches in Oklahoma.

I like this hire. Give the guy a chance before writing him off as a failure.

well ... at least he's had the opportunity to see a variety of different things. that alone might provide something.

I see nothing wrong with the hire......like others have said, if he only picks up a couple of things per stop in his career, he may be just what we need.

And I'm sure that Kruger has looked at his resume....and decided he was the best pick.

I think this means LK will stay at least 3 more years

If this helps seal the deal with Thompson, I wouldn't care if he changed jobs every 6 months.

I am pretty excited about the hire. I remember watching his Tulsa teams beat some good teams in the NCAA tournament, including knocking off UCLA and Illinois. If I know anything about Kruger he researched this hire well for the best overall fit at Oklahoma. I like him much better than his son or the last guy from Rice. I don't think those two added much in player development or recruiting.

Does anyone think Kruger would hire a "shady" coach/cheater?

I don't understand why having several different coaching experiences is a bad thing. It's not like he's being run out of town. Most of his moves are logical upgrades, or he was following a coach. It says more to me that Tubby and Turgeon were willing to bring him along after several years beside them. It would have been very easy to cut ties.
