Baylor edges Winthrop

If mulkey was the OU football coach Perine would be suspended for the Sugar Bowl for taking the knee

We would be wanting to get SC a raise if OU could beat a team that bad.

No, if we bet a team that bad Mike Lupica would write columns condemning us.

Because everyone knows Oklahoma, good or bad, all over the country and people would read that news. Hypocrite U or Winthrop, no one gives a flying flip. There should be a LOT move coverage nationally on Hypocrite U rapes but not so much. And since Hypocrite U is private church school, they can hide a lot. Drayton "Booger Pickens" McLane et al are paying off and settling lawsuits (at least 2 already) so I'll be shocked if any ever go to trial thus most of crimes will never be known publicly. Travesty!!!

If OU, it would be never ending.

I certainly agree that it was a classless act - and absolutely expected from a school like Baylor that does not have even a small ethical base. But it is also a perfect symbol of our country and the kind of social approach many parents, politicians, and large corporations are modeling.

Just a few minutes ago I was channel surfing and came upon the last few seconds of the Division 2 football championship game. With 50 seconds left and a multi-TD lead, classless NW Missouri was trying to run up the score - and finally scored again. Total lack of class. Instead of being excited to win a National Championship, all they could think about is trying to humiliate their opponent. Exactly what we can expect from most sports teams today. Never enough. Humiliate your opponent - just winning is worthless. Beat them into a pulp if you can.

Same kind of people we worship in society. Worth and value are measured in only one way: How much money can you get - by any means.

How can we be surprised when sports teams act in the exact way society models in every area?

The fact that religious schools like Baylor are leading the pack in displaying a win at all costs mentality (and a beat your opponent into the dirt addiction) is a major symptom of the disease. They should be the ones that encourage humility, kindness, respect, etc. But they turn out to be the worst of the bunch.

Blame Winthrop..they wanted to play for the pay check. Same thing happens in football, it's the school that's getting cream who is at fault not the players and certainly not the winning team.

Great post!

Nyeshia Stevenson probably has an opinion on this latest Baylor travesty.

I must preface my statement with the fact that I love nothing more than when OU whoops on Baylor in anything! It's been a minute since OU WBB has dominated Baylor, but that's another story.

With that said...I don't consider the whooping that Winthrop took as a "classless act" by Mulkey. First of all, this is not intramural or the fun league. This is NCAA Div. I BUSINESS! Also, if you look at the box score, non-starters played as much time if not more than starters. The bench scored almost half the points. Over a third of Baylor's points were from Winthrop turnovers.

When you look at the details...I guess there was not much that Baylor could do to avoid such a high score. I guess they could have allowed a bunch of shot clock violations and not shot the ball to ruin their overall stats. Just saying!

And...we have enough to worry about to prepare for two rounds of Baylor. All I want for Christmas is to beat Baylor! The good ole' days...

What do you think is the reason for Baylor to pass OU far as women basketball?

You are absolutely correct about recruiting, development, and coaching. I can not comment about the winning attitude and/or desire of the players.

Baylor has been to three Final Fours, same as OU. They won two. We didn't.

We haven't been on probation yet, nor have we had any national stories about being bad for women's basketball.

When I look at the graduating players for OU, I am usually proud of them as women. I feel that they can make a good mark on the world.

Wonder how they feel at Baylor? I've seen a couple that obviously didn't learn much---anywhere.

I mention the "winning attitude/desire" as a difference maker between Baylor and OU not only relative to the players, but also the coaches. Winning attitude/desire shows up during game time for players as confident play, never giving up until the whistle blows, a game face of confidence versus a look of bewilderment, hustle and playing with a sense of urgency for 40 minutes. For coaches...consistent coaching from the bench whether you're 20 points up, 20 points down or 20 seconds to go. Making adjustments THROUGHOUT the game. And never, never sitting there looking like they lost their best friend. Assistant coaches look like they are afraid to say something without permission. Strangest thing I've ever seen in my life.

Is Mulkey over the top on the bench? YES! But 50% of what she does would be an improvement for our coaching staff. Our bench is active and interactive when we're winning. When it's challenging (losing)...we appear to have given up. And that does not mean everyone has to be jumping and moving, but at least LOOK LIKE you have a strategic plan! JMHO

I think you need to be on the Baylor site. Nearly all of your posts for years have been a condemnation of Sherri. I would like to know:

----did you go to OU?
----why do you come to this board?
----why would you regard yourself as an OU fan?
