Baylor (more trouble)

What a bunch of scumbags.

Spare me... Just because they don't recruit 2 stars and jucos. NCAA was in Waco two years ago fishing around because a team in the conference turned Baylor in and nothing was found.

Recruiting college basketball players is not for the faint of heart- at least the ones worth recruiting. Baylor tried to place an international kid and got stabbed in the back by an Indiana AAU coach. Crean is about to get fired if he doesn't win some recruiting battles. Nothing will come of this other than it feeds the fuel of the Scott Drew haters....

So threatening to deport a high school kid if he doesnt sign with your program is justifiable behavior?

You're defending Baylor as being clean in the below article? It was an obvious NCAA violation. And the guy doing it was on suspension for previous violations. Not the time to bring up that Baylor is clean. LOL

Funny though Mr. Big Baylor fan....I don't believe you commented once in the LacePunchious Dunn thread did you? He completely innocent as well?

One doesn't have to be a delicate flower to be disgusted by threatening to have someone deported if they attend a different educational institution. If someone finds themself doing that, they might want to take a step back and figure out what has happened to their life.

A very fair point. DFW, what's your take on that?

bigabd- you're a cpa. You send an attorney one of your best clients to get legal work done. The attorney tells your client, "Hey I have a better cpa for you. Bigabd doesn't know his stuff as well as this guy and I bet this guy is cheaper too."

Would you say some things you might not wish were broadcast to the world? Morefield got back-stabbed by one of his Indiana contacts. He probably said some things via text that he wishes he didn't as a result. The Indiana AAU coach sold his soul to get cozy with the Hoosier program. It happens. Hope it works out for him.

On Dunn... awful situation. What is to comment on? I hope for him that it is a moment in life he looks back on and sees it as a crossroads where his life could have gone one way. But he sought repentance, reconciliation and restoration and his life turned out better as a result. We are all far more wicked than we would admit and God is far more graceful than we would give Him credit for...

I hope Dunn is able to play again. The incident was his first bad incident at Baylor. It is a very bad incident. But I would hope any kid that makes a bad mistake would get a second chance if he is repentant. I would say the same thing about a whorn even :) Obviously if you get to strike number 2, you have to part ways.

Of course the problem is not that what he said was broadcast to the world, it's that it was said at all. If he realizes that what he texted was awful and inhumane, then good for him and I hope he changes his ways. If not, he's a sociopath. Dismissing it in the name of college recruiting being a tough world is pure insanity.

Tony- that deportation is an embellishment. What was said is that if Perea doesn't go to Baylor, he will go back to Colombia. There was no threat of deportation. Reading comprehension...

Ragging on Lace Dunn will backfire. He has the Kobe/Jordan gene in him. KSU fans got nasty with him two years ago and he dropped 8 3's on them. I tried the same tactic with Pullen before the game in Waco this past year. All good natured and clean, but I kept reminding him in the pregame shoot around that he was 6-25 from 3 coming into that game in big 12 play. He just shook his head and smiled my way 4-5 times that game as he dropped about 30 on Baylor. I regret saying a word to him... Some kids are wired that way to take the pressure and excel...

If it's true like it sounds it is....I think he should miss the season. It's a possible felony at this point. He can't even go to class. Basketball should be the last thing his coaches and mentors should be worried about. I agree he deserves a second chance. He should redshirt and come back next year stronger than ever. Wouldn't you agree?

I guarantee u if he does [commit to another school] he will be in Colombia for the spring and summer and next year. Don’t forget it.

What am I missing? Is he saying that if Perea commits elsewhere he will be unhappy and leave that school and return to his native Colombia? I don't understand. It sure reads like a threat to me.

That text is on par with the average level of intelligence of many D-I assistant coaches I have met.

I actually didn't read it as a threat, either. I took it as more of a warning not to trust the other coaches involved.

How could a Baylor coach have the kid deported, anyway?

And honestly... I wouldn't be at all shocked if Perea never plays a second of college basketball. International kids that good usually don't.

you've got to be joking.

your dunn story is a little off too. i was at the game, dunn wasn't given any particular abuse. he lit kstate up because he's a good shooter, they left him open time and again, and he happened to have a good night.

To me it is the "don't forget it," part that shows it wasn't just an innocent statement. That brings out the threat.

Regardless, an assistant sent texts during a no contact period under a program that was a little more than a month removed from probation.

LD definitely has the Kobe "I'm a big man b/c I abuse women" thing going for him for sure. And he also has Jordan's knack for hitting people close to them in the face (Steve Kerr) and having it covered up by everyone. In that sense only is he like Kobe/Jordan.

The Baylor and UF fans are so freaking pathetic right now. Threatening and/or punching a woman in the face deserves ridicule not sympathy. Tell us, oh great DFW, what would you do if Dunn had punched your daughter or wife in the face? Would that be a "learning experience"?

BTW- I know quite a bit about the Perea situation from sources at IU and I can tell you that this is not the only incident regarding the Baylor staff and Perea. The Baylor staff is regarded as scum by most coaching staffs across the country.

As for Crean, he's still cleaning up Sampson's mess and is progressing. They were much better last year until Creek, their leading scorer, broke his kneecap. He's winning his fair share of recruits and does it by the book, unlike Drew and his pathetic band of cheaters.
