That January 30 game is looking pretty interesting. LSU freshman Ben Simmons had 21 points, 20 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals against Marquette. He's the first major conference player to have at least 20/20/5 since Blake Griffin, per ESPN Stats & Info.

But Marquette won the game.

I've seen some of his highlights against cupcake teams and he reminds me of a slightly smaller Blake. He's got a combination of speed, court vision, and sheer athleticism you don't see too often.

Wow. I knew people thought highly of him. It seems like he is living up to all the expectations.

That game was played in Brooklyn, and I saw Simmons interviewed on local TV the other day. I had no idea he was from Australia.

I watched the LSU/Marquette game last night and was really impressed by Simmons. He's a different kind of player than Blake Griffin. He's silky smooth and handles the ball extremely well for a big man. He's not really a low post player but he's young. He reminds me of Kevin Durant without the outside shot.

he is the best player in the country and I don't think it is even close ..

Agreed. We are going to have our hands full against Lsu. Would be nice to have a healthy manyang in the paint by then.

We will have our hands full with him, for sure, but Marquette (who just got blown out at home to Iowa) still won the game. Even if he goes off (and he probably will) it's not a bad game plan to force other LSU players to make plays.

LSU will be a different team in January...their transfer from Arizona will be eligible and Hornsby (13 pts/gam, 4th best shooter in SEC last season) should be healthy, he hasn't played yet.

They've got deep talent. Gonna come down to coaching. I like our chances.

Really wish he went to somewhere with elite talent - think would be a lot of fun to watch. 1 man college teams can be stopped.

Pretty bizarre stat line for Simmons tonight - 4 points/16 rebounds/10 assists

And Simmons' teammates simply aren't very good right now. LSU is a one-man show. But interestingly enough, Marquette sagged off Simmons and he was very tentative to take a jumper. His one weakness is he doesn't seem to have much confidence in his jump-shot right now. He refused to take the game-winner when he was open.

Marquette is absolutely horrific this year....they've managed to lose to Belmont and Iowa both at home....the latter loss was by 28 as you mentioned.

LSU is barely a bubble-quality team.
