Berry Tramel's Chat quotes on Capel/OU basketball situation
Here are the quotes on the OU basketball situation from Berry Tramel's chat earlier today.
Here are the quotes on the OU basketball situation from Berry Tramel's chat earlier today.
Jamie: Your take on the OU basketball situation? Are we looking at a disaster?
Berry Tramel: Iceberg! Iceberg! Abandon ship. Abandon ship. Absolute, total disaster. The captain is nowhere to be found, headquarters doesn't know what's going on, the seamen are diving for the life boats. This is a total catastrophe.
Thomas: Think Capel makes it through all this with his job?
Berry Tramel: You know, I think so. But I'm not convinced anymore. It's not just the events that are most troubling. It's how Capel has handled the events. Where is he? Any reassuring words? Any connection to the fan base that everything is going to be OK? I haven't seen it. The Sooners hired an inexperienced coach, and that inexperience is biting OU in the butt.
Bo: The timing of the Taliaferro "resignation" is troubling, too. If he's tied to the Gallon mess, I don't see how Capel survives. Your take, BT?
Berry Tramel: Taliaferro was fired, no doubt about it. If he was involved in NCAA infractions, I think Capel's goose could be cooked.
Jonathan: If Capel leaves can you think of any potential replacements?
Berry Tramel: The pool is a little less than normal, because the situation is so bad. I mean, you'd call the Butler coach, but he'd be a fool to leave. Gillispie is available; if he'd straighten up his act, he wouldn't be a bad choice. But I don't think you can take a chance on him personally.
OUNck: How can OU not be on top of things after the Bomar and Samsung fiasco? Is Joe C.'s job on the line also?
Berry Tramel: I don't think this is an NCAA issue, as far as the paramount problem. I just think the program spun out of control in terms of players bickering, then playing bad, then leaving. I'd say the NCAA is not the major issue concerning OU basketball right now. The problem is, there are no players and no apparent adult supervision. I don't think Castiglione's job is on the line.
