will be announced today starting at 3:00 CT on their website.

in increments of five minute....wow...just bilk the postings for all their worth

so Cave from Baylor is the first...6th man player award

It had to be Gabbi. I don't remember anyone else that did that much as a freshman this year.

Hope Peyton is newcomer of year.Should be, but you never know.

The reason these awards have real meaning is because the players are selected by the coaches.

Nina earned it. Peyton is the only candidate for Newcomer that makes sense.

Gabbi had competition. The preseason pick for FOY was the shooter from Texas

I think she was easily the most deserving, but based on player of the week honors (selected by different people I believe), I think she was very lucky to win it. Several won that weekly award more then she did:

Dec. 22 – Bryanna Fernstrom, ISU, C
Dec. 29 – Terriell Bradley, KU, G
Jan. 5 – Kristy Wallace, BU, G and Dayo Olabode, TTU, F
Jan. 12 -- Kristy Wallace, BU, G
Jan. 19 – Gabbi Ortiz, OU, G
Jan. 26 -- Bryanna Fernstrom, ISU, C
Feb. 2 – Ariel Atkins, UT, G
Feb. 9 – Gabbi Ortiz, OU, G
Feb. 16 – Brooke McCarty, UT, G
Feb. 23 -- Brooke McCarty, UT, G
March 2 – Ariel Atkins, UT, G
March 4 -- Kristy Wallace, BU, G

Defensive Player of the Year:Chelsea Prince, TCU, F, 5-11, Sr, Fort Worth, Texas

Newcomer of the Year:Peyton Little, Oklahoma, G, 5-11, So, Abilene, Texas

I think a player who starts every game as the floor leader for a team that finishes second in the conference is a tough act to beat.

Who selects the weekly honors?

I have never seen that explained. They just say media members from the area or something like that. I get the impression it is led by Wendell Barnhouse. But I think they keep the actual selectors a secret.

Peyton: was there credible opposition?
I rather liked what I saw of Prince. Good hands in the passing lanes.
