It's the off-season and the NBA draft is Thursday night. I looked at some mock drafts to see where various B12 players are projected. I thought the B12 had some great PG's but Mason, Morris, and Evans are all projected as mid-2nd rounders because they're all small. Jarrett Allen from Texas is the only projected 1st rounder. Motley and Iwundku were projected 2nd rounders and kind of round out projected draftees from the B12.

I remember when when DeAndre Jordan came out after his freshman year at A&M when they were part of the B12, I thought it was a big mistake. He was drafted in the 2nd round so he didn't get a guaranteed contract so he was able to negotiate his 2nd contact before the 1st rounders did. It turned out he made the right decision.

I keep thinking those 3 PG's are better than some of the NBA backups I watched this year. I guess their lack of size might get them abused on defense, especially on switches.

Thoughts?

Obviously just an oversight, but Josh Jackson will be one of the top 3 or 4 picks. But you are right in noting that there are not a ton of Big 12 guys likely to go high this year. I think there is a chance Evans could go late first, and Mason will probably go early second. It sounds like Mason impressed teams during the draft process. But Jackson is the one potential star, although Allen has obvious potential.

In the past NBA spots where as much a matter of opportunity and timing as anything else. Not at the top level obviously, but many of those other players are near interchangeable in terms of skills. Thats why the PIT was such a big deal back in the day.

Now there's a lot more involved scientifically and biologically and even socially because we have players all over the world to consider.

Still a crap shoot though despite all the advanced speculation. Look at IT jr. I'd say these days if someone has the skill set they will get a chance to show it. and it will normally get them the spot that their skills and tenacity merit. so we hope.

I dont think Fultz would have been the top pick years ago. having so little team success and even experience would haunt him. these days he's the goods ... and IMO rightfully so. the guy is a game changer extraordinaire. Jackson is gonna go 3rd. The guards you spoke of will be better off in FA so they can go to a team that fits their particular gifts more. I bet you see them on some benches then in D-league for a couple then in at least b/u spots in 5 years.

I'm excited for this draft. I think there is a lot of trades that will happen and a lot of question marks on where players will go.

I wouldn't be mad at all if frank mason went to the thunder. yeah he is small but his reach and wingspan aren't terrible. he is a gamer

Whoops!

I fear danny ainge is making a big mistake letting Fultz go. Trade IT if you have to ... Fultz is too good at the point to let go.

Remember the old days of college and pro basketball.
The top players of the final four teams were always drafted

As a fan of Buddy, obviously, I'm sure hoping that Fox falls to the Kings. I think he would complement Buddy tremendously by opening up lanes and shooting opportunities. His defense, ball-handling, and speed would be great additions to the Kings.
