Big 12 Coach of the Year

If you watched UT last night and don't think Barnes is COY, then you're out of your mind...completely dismantled A&M.

If OU goes 9-7 Capel is the freakin Big 12 Coach of the year. I will also spend my next vacation on a deserted island in the middle of the Pacific with BocaBull converting to off the wal,l straight up crazy, lumatic sooner fan.

10 days ago i'd say Boyle....but after UT thumps ATM at home and College Statin and the KU win...he's the leader.

Sadler could make a play, losing at Tech hurts. Boyle and Drew could make a play. BU seems to be playing better but I don't believe in Drew.

Great, so if we beat Texas in Norman and finish 9-7 there appears to be no valid argument why Capel would not be coach of the year.

It's a tall order and the next step would be a win over Baylor.

The primary reasons are Bil Self and Rick Barnes. They are both doing a really good job this year. You have to remember this award typically goes to a guy that wins the conference rather than does a really great job being middle of the pack.

Here's a question...and maybe it has already been addressed. When voting on the conference Coach of the Year, does the entire season come into play or just the conference season. That would obviously be a factor in how many votes Coach Capel gets. OU was pretty bad in non-conference play, so if that's factored in, Coach will not be in the discussion even with a 9-7 record.

My fault, I just thought this thread was funny. Way to put the cart before the horse.

Not really. The OP stated that Capel's name was in the hunt. At that time, it was.

He then asked how many wins would it take for Capel to win the award. A legitimate question.

He then stated that every other coach in the league sees how our players are improving. They have improved, although last night was a stumbling block which happens with young teams.

It was a legitimate thread at the time and provided some good discussion. Nothing wrong with that

That's an overstatement. It was not a legitimate question because Capel was not in the running before or after the 4 game winning streak. It's not like we beat KU or Texas...we beat the 2 bottom feeders, ISU and Tech and then beat the 2 worst basketball programs all time in the big 12 in Baylor and CU.

Both the CU win and win at ISU impressed a bunch of us on this board, because we didn't think they would win those games, but that's still not big enough to warrant COY consideration.

What Big Old said. There wasn't a point in this season where Capel was ever realistically thought to be a COY candidate and it's glaringly obvious at this point.

This was not a legitimate question.

Barnes had this thing won after the KU game in Lawrence.

Just because Barnes had it won doesn't mean the question wasn't legitimate.

If we could've somehow managed to get to 8-8 or 9-7, Capel certainly would have finished second in the voting.

It's always really easy to bump a thread like this 2 weeks later and criticize it.

Great job cherry picking Baylor's bball history to make a point while ignoring that they have been a solid team the past few years. I can't believe Duke almost lost in the Elite 8 last year to one of the worst programs in big 12 history. I'm sure Lace Dunn, Acy and Perry worry about 40 years of someone else's history every time they lace up their sneakers or take a shot.
