Darian Jackson feels like she can now take a deep breath.
"This is the first one and you're a little more nervous. After that, you can just get on a roll," the Broken Arrow senior said. "You always see those upsets on TV. You don't want that to happen to you."
Jackson and the top-ranked Tigers can exhale as they are two wins away from a third-straight gold ball after a 54-43 win over No. 10 Edmond Deer Creek Thursday afternoon.
Senior Alexis Gaulden scored a game-high 18 points for BA (24-3), which advanced to face Owasso at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the semifinals. Aysia Evans added 15 points despite early foul trouble while Jackson collected another double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
"(Deer Creek) is a really good team," Tiger coach Mike Hughes said. "I was happy with the way we played."
BA took command with a 16-0 run in the first half to take a 26-14 lead at intermission.
Gaulden and Jackson combined for nine of the 16 points during the spurt that gave the Tigers a 23-7 cushion.
Deer Creek committed nine turnovers and shot just 23 percent (5-of-22) as BA led by as many as 17 in the first half.
The Antlers cut the deficit to six twice in the second half, but the Tigers made 11 of 12 free throws over the final 2:38 to ice the victory.
Manning led the Antlers (20-8) with 14 points, but was held to 5-of-15 shooting.
