Buddy's Kings debut

He was 1-10 last night.

Teams are guarding him the way they guard JJ Redick or Klay Thompson, and it's hurt his percentages overall this preseason and through the first three games.

He played sparingly in the 2nd half.

After a couple of really bad shooting nights, Buddy was unfortunately benched for tonights game. The Kings are 1-7 and a dumpster fire right now anyway

Buddy has been just awful to start the year again this season. I just don't understand it.

Buddy Buckets has been trash this season. I hate it for him, and I hope he turns it around soon. He deserves the pine time.

The Fox kid is a player though.

He WAS 7-11 tonight for 17 with 7 boards and 3 steals (but 5 TO's). Still a good showing shooting wise. Hope he can build on that

Maybe we shouldn't jump to conclusions based on two weeks and a handful of games. I mean, he bounced back from a tough first month last season and made first-team All Rookie. Sucks to see him struggle, but something tells me he hasn't lost the ability to shoot the ball. Tonight's performance might jumpstart him.

yeah, whew, I was wrong about the kings. i thought randolph and buddy would make shots. right about fox though. kid is fun!

it’s also defense for Buddy. just not sure he has the intensity and awareness it takes. so I’m sure I will be wrong about that one day. didn’t get to see it, but glad he had a good game tonight. because richardson will take more of his minutes if he continues to struggle. but yes, it’s still early.

:buddy

For me, his shooting is his biggest problem. It is getting his own shot. He is not the most athletic guy on the court (not by a long shot, pun intended). He is somewhat slow compared to those who guard him consistently. It takes a lot more for him to get open.

Nobody has jumped to any conclusions. Saying that he's been bad for the first two weeks is not jumping to a conclusion, it's just what has happened. I think all of us want him to do well, and are discouraged by this.

I'm not sure he's been as bad as all that. He's had three bad games, outings in which he scored in single digits. But he's had five games in which he scored in double digits.

I too am hoping for even better from him, but it's not been quite the disastrous start described above.

sophomore slump. getting more attention from defenses and just needs to figure out how to get open against better defenders on a nightly basis.

his dribbling has improved a lot. I don't think getting his own shot is a problem.

I'm not sure there's any other conclusion that can be drawn other than to say he's been dreadful.

FG - 38.7%
3PT - 25.7%

Buddy has played nearly 192 minutes this year for the Kings, and Sacramento is -81 in that stretch. Not good.

He's scored 89 points thus far, but it's taken him 93 shots. Very inefficient!

Be better, Buddy! Find other ways to contribute!

Fear all along for me with Buddy is that he simply isn't a great athlete-- at least not on a NBA level and not for his size. Meaning, he isn't tiny for a 2G, but he is on the smaller size-- he isn't like some of the wings in the NBA that range from 6'6-6/8. So he's a tad undersized and then you couple that with the fact that he isn't going to blow by anyone.

He absolutely does not have the skills be a hybrid player--- he isn't skilled enough to handle the ball as a part-time PG and he isn't big enough to play the 3 in the NBA. He is absolutely a shooting guard-- with a heavy emphasis on the "shooting" part. So if his shots don't fall, he is quite honestly a massive weakness because he just doesn't do much else. And not to be terribly negative but I just don't ever see him being a guy that does a bunch of other stuff on the floor. His best shot to be a valuable NBA player is to become an absolute dead eye shooter with range--- a guy that hovers in the 40% range on three and is so dangerous from distance that any weaknesses he has on the floor are acceptable.

I do think his career will be in jeopardy if he is unable to raise those percentages significantly over the course of the season.

I believe Buddy started out 6/6 against OKC tonight and has 15 points with 5 minutes left to go in the first half. Promising.

He finished 7-9 (4-4 from 3-pt range) and led the Kings with 21 points. They overcame a 17-point deficit to beat the OKC Thunder...I'm guessing there are a few fans on this board with "mixed emotions" after that game. ;)

Last year Buddy had a great game against OKC (then with New Orleans) that propelled his run at Rookie of the Year. Hopefully last night's game has the same affect (effect?). :buddy

And yet in the postgame, they said next to nothing about him (actually, I didn't hear them say a single word about him, but it's possible I missed a passing reference) -- it was all Fox and Randolph.
