Capel enters elite status

hey, I agree. Again, I'm not saying either position is 100% correct, just saying the truth is often (and usually) somewhere in between.

Though we should soar into the heavens, though we should sink into the abyss, we never go out of ourselves; it is always our own thought that we perceive.
There is an old coaching axiom that pretty much says the same thing:You are never as good as your best win or as bad as your worst defeat.

When he turns this thing around rapidly for the second time in 5 years there will be no doubt that he is one of the elite coaches in the nation.

The biggest question going forward will be if OU can keep him.

Coaches in the "Elite Status" are those that have a dip, e.g. one season, and rebound. OU is going to take at least two years, which isn't "Elite Status".

"Elite Status" is a Calipari-type. Lose a truck load of McDAAs to the NBA just to sign a truck load of McDAAs.

Capel is still learning on the job and is very young. He may reach that status in the next 4 to 6 years, however.

Hard to say he will be in elite status after cleaning up his own mess...

I don't think it's his own mess. He got burned by a couple of guys, TMG and Gallon, which was magnified due to an injury to the best player and no production from upperclassmen stemming from a probation and losing the #1 player in the draft.

BTW that #1 player in the draft was ranked #23 in his own class before Capel got ahold of him.

And mark my words, when Capel has OU back in the dance and ranked in the top 10 everybody will be calling him elite.

LOL...Bill Self the biggest choker in the league?
He just won his 6 straight Big 12 title.

Okay you want me to go through the recruits that left after 1 or 2 years? That's the real reason we stunk last year. Capel just hasn't recruited all that well and was lucky to have the brother of an all world player already on the roster. I hope our current class turns out. They better or Capel will probably be out of here in a couple years.

Boca...seriously, I don't think anyone thinks you believe this stuff anymore...I don't know why you enjoy being intentionally ridiculous, but you've lost all credibility...

When he wins 2 years in a row and goes to the tournament without Blake Griffin, he might at least get to keep his job.

We are riding a 9 game losing streak and 1 guy is talking about our coach being elite. Talk about selective recall.

We didn't lose any games last year, time just ran out.

YOU ARE SO WRONG IT'S BLINDING YOU!

Elite is more than a Top 10 ranking or getting back in the dance. Try winning the Big12 at least three or four times and a NCAA title.

LOL, now that's funny.
Yeah, 9 game losing streak with 3 MCDAA's on the roster.

I really like Coach Capel and think he can turn things around but let's get realistic here folks. He's closer to getting fired than he is being an elite coach.
We need to temper the hype and give him some time to work things out.
Because it's going to take a bit of time.

LMAO - good grief - stop sniffing glue young man.

I must have missed this at the time.
Missouri won the 2009 Big 12 Championship.

i just dont know what Capel did to make anyone just LOVE him or his teams. he didnt develop, he didnt play any form of "style" of ball on either offense or defense.

and the guys who looked like they cared the "most", played the hardest and were generally the success stories were Taylor and Blake Griffin, Tyler Neal, Cade Davis and that was b/c they were local kids who would've busted their tails for anyone. it was about OU for them.

Well, first off, that post was from last year - the 2009-10 season, in which Kansas won both the Big 12 championship and Big 12 tournament championship.

Secondly, Missouri didn't "win the Big 12" in 2008-09. They won the Big 12 tournament championship. Kansas won the Big 12 conference championship because they finished first in the regular season.

The latter is the more significant achievement.

I love how we do the regular season champion thing, but decide every other championship in basketball by tournament.

The regular season championship is skewed in many ways. The regular season championship doesnt give you an automatic bid. The regular season championship favors teams with easier schedules. The regular season championship doesnt have a championship game.

National Championship: Tournament
Preseason Championships (NIT, Alaska, Hawaii, etc): Tournament
NIT: Tournament
CBI: Tournament
NBA Championship: Tournament
FIBA Championship: Tournament
World Cup Championship: Tournament
High School Championships: Tournament
Mens League Championships: Tournament
Church League Championships: Tournament
Conference Championship: Best record (even with a tournament present)

Does not compute.
