Capel is 14-22 in the month of February

looking at just February is a bit unfair. I think a better measure is conference play and Capel has a losing record in conference play. He is so far behind Sampson it is not even close. In fact, I don't think it is possible for Capel to catch Sampson (statistically it is but in reality I don't think it is).

I agree only looking at February is unfair as a whole, but I'm more interested in posters thoughts as to why we swoon in February?

I believe Capel has had a winning conference record at the end of January in all 5 seasons he has been at OU. What happens in February? It can't be just that we "play good teams", because the schedule is random.
 
Personally, I've thought one of Capel's worst traits as a coach has been his lineup planning and switching. We run few players out there a lot and late in the regular season they get run down and aren't able to play their best. Of course, we've had bad luck as well with Blake getting injured around this time a few years back, right?

Maybe this all comes back to conditioning?
 
This really isn't hard at all. 1-10 this season and last season combined. That's why the record is so skewed. We know what's wrong with this team and we obviously know what was wrong with last year's team.

If we lose out. Which has a good chance of happening Capel's record through 5 seasons is 94-69(57%)even if we win 1 of the next 6 that's 95-68(58%)

The last OU coach to have less than 59% after 5 seasons was John MacLeod. That's almost 40 years ago. We are historically bad for OU right now. Sure his percentage isn't that far below Bliss and Ramsey in the 70s, but that's not OU's standards. Like it or not Tubbs and Sampson are and they won over 70% of their games over 26 years.

I don't see anyway Capel lasts another season if we don't make the NCAA Tournament next year. He's put himself in a deep, deep hole.

Not really.

The facts are he was 3-5 in February in 2007, 3-5 in 2008, 6-2 in 2009, and either 2-6 or 1-7 last year.

It's a valid question. Why do we take a nose dive 4 of his 5 years? Something has to be the cause because we know the effect is losing. Just curious for some discussion as to what others think is causing it.

So far, I don't have anything of any substance.
 
Definitely seems like a valid question.

I looked back through OU's last five seasons to see if there was any pattern (a high number or road games, a high number of rematches with other south teams, etc). I think six of those February losses came against teams OU had already played. I thought maybe teams/coaches "figured out" OU after the first game, but there's really no pattern with that, either (sometimes losing to teams you already beat, sometimes losing to teams you lost to already, sometimes simply splitting home and away).

I really don't see an explanation for it.
 
Opponents probably figured out how to slow down our complicated offense.
