Capel needs to rip the refs new ones in the press conference

Huh? I've never seen a player leave with all kinds of deficiencies, and come back polished. Normally, they make improvements during the season, work on a few little things during the offseason, and show some more small improvement. All that small improvement is not makes it noticable.

What I see is a little more effort, and better team play, mostly, IMO, due to Willie being gone. That is it in the improvement category. We still can't run anything resembling an offense. We still take a ton of bad shots, and turn the ball over at stupid times. We still can't get stops when we need them. We still don't rebound well. Enlighten me as to the other improvements you see, b/c I'd love to have something to feel better about.

One example of a player improving over the summer would be Stacy King. The difference between Stacy King during his Sophomore year and Stacy King during his Junior year was like night and day.

More effort and better team play don't count as improvement? It doesn't matter why it happens, as long as it does happen. No the defense isn't great but it's a lot better than it was earlier in the year. Individually, TMG, Fitz & Tiny are all better than they were early in the year. though. Consider yourself enlightened.

being pretty ignorant now.:ez-laugh:

i see this and individuals getting better (TMG, TINY, FITZ) if you can't see that you might as well stop watching

Or you could stop with the name calling?

I'll watch what I want. And no, I don't see it. TMG isn't playing as well as he was. SOME of that may be fatigue, though it shouldn't be. Plenty of OU guards have played the minutes he's played this year. Kid is 18. He ought to be able to run forever. The kid was an option QB just last year, no?

I don't see Fitz getting better. I see his minutes increasing, which lead to him getting some shots. But it's hit and miss. Call that freshman inconsistency all you want, but I see the good games as simply that, good games. Getting better means you don't lay goose eggs like he did tonight. Getting better is improved rebounding and defense. I don't see those things improving. At all.

Not really. No way to really "prove" that, but I certainly don't think it has been. Geez.....UT, without their 1 and 2 pg's, just put up 90 on us.

Seriously, you don't see TMG, TINY, and Fitz getting better? wow

do you realize how many players we played? and how many minutes they played? and how many freshman we played? FOUR freshman against texas in austin on senior night and we had the lead for most of the game. put that in your pipe and smoke it. geez.

i am always amzed at how so people can't swallow their pride and get props to positives

Over the first game of the season? Sure. Over where they were one month ago? No. Tiny had good games early in the year. His last couple before tonight weren't his first. Who knows with Fitz. He is getting more minutes, can't really compare a kid that is starting to a kid that is getting 4 minutes a game. Even if he is terrible, he'll likely look better starting b/c he's getting more chances for good plays.

You think our players are great. We haven't won a game in almost a month, but we are getting better. I hear ya.

They aren't freshman any more. Stop with the excuses. Plenty of GOOD OU teams have only went 7 deep in certain games. Fatigue is a lame excuse.

Inexperience certainly didn't stop us from getting a big lead. Just like Norman. Only this time, they didn't have the home crowd to help them hold on. This team has to learn to keep their foot on the pedal. Until that happens.....we'll keep losing.

I never said they are great. I can't believe you can't see improvement in fitz. oh well, keep being a pessimist and hatin the team

If there's no way to prove that the defense is a little better, there's no way to prove it hasn't.

The saddest thing about this entire discussion is that you've become one of the posters you used to despise.

They aren't freshman? really? what a stupid statement. ridiculous.
Has a good OU team went 7 deep with FOUR FRESHMAN?

and to not expect some fatigue throughout a game is not reasonable for anybody.

really? i guess you can call it a burn with what you are used to?

I just thought it was a good point.

I don't really know what I see... Sometimes I see Tiny have a big game, and then he disappears. Sometimes I see TMG be awesome, then I see him not be awesome. Sometimes I see Cade score 20, and then I see him score 7. Sometimes I see Fitz look like a really good player, then I see him do nothing.

Its really hard to judge progress, improvement, etc when the guys are so inconsistent. ESPECIALLY when its been nearly a month since they won a game.

i fail to see what winning a game has to do with seeing improvement.

Capel himself, post game, said the defense was terrible, and was worse then the offense. 87 points to a UT team that scored 58, 69, 71, and 77 in their last 4 games.

Well, if you really improve and don't just put up numbers on a really bad team you tend to win games. These guys arent losing nail-biters, they are losing by double-digits.

But what about the rest of what I said?

I didn't say the defense was good. They aren't close to being a good defensive team. I said it was better than earlier in the year.

From a layman's perspective, here is what I have seen the past couple of weeks:

-Tiny's effort and attitude appears to have improved. He still needs to get tougher, but he has shown some flashes of being a really good player.
-TMG appears to have hit the wall. I posted several weeks back when he was dropping 30 per game that I was worried about him running out of gas because he was playing so many minutes. Most people told me I was crazy and not to worry about it, because we've had lots of players play that many minutes. Well I wonder how many true freshmen we've had play that many minutes. My eyes right now tell me that I may have been at least a little bit right.
-Fitzgerald has shown some offensive game, but as we've discussed he has a lot of work to do in the conditioning department and also improving his athleticism. He needs to work his tail off in the offseason, Griffin style.
-Cade continues to be a very solid player. I think he is always going to be streaky on the offensive end, somewhat similar to Crocker, but he brings the effort and intensity every night. That is invaluable.
-I really would like to see more from Pledger. We desperately need him to contribute 15-20 solid minutes for us next year, and that means being more than just a jump shooter.
-Willis hasn't played a minute in over two weeks. I think the writing is on the wall there.
-Still no clue what to think about Orlando's future at OU.

theres no doubt that they are inconsistent. I think that comes with lack of experience and being FRESHMAN
