Choctaw coach Ryan Maloney watched forward Jordan Saxton throughout the week’s practices and noticed a newfound confidence.

It showed Saturday afternoon.

The 6-foot junior put together perhaps her most complete performance to lead No. 2 Choctaw’s balanced attack in a 60-38 rout of No. 11 Westmoore to win a Class 6A regional championship.

Saxton scored 12 points, grabbed five rebounds and finished with two assists. She also had a block and a steal.

“I just really tried to help my team out, honestly,” Saxton said. “Just whatever way I can. We all just played really well.”

Choctaw never looked back after jumping to a 19-2 lead after one quarter, taking advantage of a weakened Westmoore attack with junior Oklahoma commit Jessi Murcer sidelined due to a broken bone in her shooting hand.

The Yellowjackets’ Ana Llanusa, an OU signee, led with 13 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists. Her little sister, Aliyah, also had 11 points, three rebounds and three assists.

“Get production like that, you’re going to be good,” Maloney said. “The lights are on and we’re ready to roll.”

Choctaw faces No. 4 Deer Creek — which routed Edmond Memorial 68-35 behind Sydney Manning’s 21 points — on Friday in an area tournament championship.
