We each need to have our own thing! :D

If nothing changes on the "head count" then OU will have 3 scholarships available for the 2015 recruiting class.

Is the assumption that we're done for '13-'14 and will save the two we currently have for '14-'15, thus giving us three after Bennett graduates?

We're still chasing some recruits. I'd guess we go after one late signing period player and a transfer.

I don't think we can assume anything. If nothing changes on the "head count" listed above, then OU will have 3 scholarships available for the 2015 recruiting class. OU still has the option of adding 2 more players to the 2014 class.

I can't imagine we'd only leave one scholarship open for the next recruiting period.

Is Cole really going to stay on scholarship?!?! Mankin is getting minutes over him.

Lon will not pull a Tford and start pulling schollies. He promised his family he'd give him a scholly after his RS year and he will honor that. He had a full ride to Davidson and Lon enticed him to switch.

And no one should ask Kruger to start doing that to kids

I haven't written Cole off. Last season he looked like a high school kid in a college practice gym. This season he looks like a college freshman in a college practice gym. That is what he is suppose to look like. He is a freshman eligibility wise. The chances of him being able to contribute some as time goes along are probably pretty good.

And besides, Mankin has some game.

Good for Lon! I'm from that old school where "your word is your bond." I'm glad our coach doesn't treat his players like chess board pawns. If he ever pulls a stunt like that, he will lose my respect.

Eh.

I don't want him to do it often, but he isn't promising these kids (most of the time) a 4 year scholarship. Scholarships are renewable year to year. If LK told Cole something different, he will honor that, no doubt.

But I don't see how pulling the scholarship of a kid that will likely never play an important minute for OU basketball, is much different then telling a kid that you offered, and had verbaled to you, that he should start looking around b/c he doesn't really have that scholarship after all. That happened with Hammonds, and happens fairly frequently.

LK will do the right thing, even if we as fans don't have all the facts.

I agree. I just don't get why our society wants to move away from core values like honoring your word. I want OU to set an example with its athletic department for all of the students to see and follow. I would rather OU lose than operate in a manner I consider unethical.

if a kid gets in trouble or isn't working hard, I am fine with revoking his scholarship but if the kid is working hard and OU simply misevaluated the kid, I want OU to honor the scholarship. Perhaps I am naive.

Are you sure about Hammond?
It wouldn't absolutely shock me, but this is what Rivals had to say about it:

"Hammond actually verbally committed to Oklahoma in August of 2012, but had a change of heart this past spring and decided to re-open his recruitment and explore his options. The Sooners left a standing offer, while he also picked up offers from Nebraska, Texas Tech and TCU. Other schools like UCLA, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Wichita State and Saint Louis also showed interest."

Not "sure" b/c I didn't hear it from LK or Hammond directly, but what you have above there doesn't seem likely, to me.

So the kid doesn't want to go to OU anymore, and ends up at Nebraska? That is kind of like saying Omega had an OU over and chose UTEP over us. I just don't think it's likely. But possible, I suppose.

I think you will agree that there is a difference in backing away from an offer and sending a kid packing after he has signed a LOI. One shows an interest, and the other breaks a signed contract.

I don't have a problem with being honest when a kid is not good enough to see meaningful minutes at OU. Most coaches do that from time to time. The goods ones even give them a hand in finding a school where they can finish out their career. What I don't approve of are coaches who cull their players year after year like fish on a stringer.

EDIT: I'll add a footnote about Hammonds, because I think there may be more to the story than we know. I read a tidbit in the Oklahoman several days ago that the OSSAA had not approved his transfer to ---- high school. I don't recall the name of the school, but CoachTalk posted it last week. Looks like Hammond may be a replay of the Henry kid.

I agree with this. I think with Kyle Hardrick, he seemingly wasn't working very hard... classroom or otherwise. As long as Cole is getting it done in practice and in the classroom, I would be disappointed if his scholly was pulled.
