Grace, how do you get the AAU coaching gig? Is it influenced by college coaches that want their "people" in positions of influence or what. Just curious.

Grace, how do you get the AAU coaching gig? Is it influenced by college coaches that want their "people" in positions of influence or what. Just curious.

From what I know there are a few ways to do it. Quite a few are former D-1 ball players. Some are former high level HS coaches in OK. Others are fathers of high level players that can hold sway over the club. Some qualify on more than one level.

Others can chime in on this subject, that's simply what I've seen

From my experience, it's mainly been a parent or a former player who was an above average HS or low-level college player trying to make the switch to coaching. Usually depends on the severity and competitive goals of the team/kid

Lots of state athletic organizations have laws forbidding high school coaches working for an AAU team.
