Somebody sketch me a depth chart by position. Who plays where, who starts and who is behind them? I've lost sight of the whole team because of the softball series(the next to the last game left me a wreck).

Good thread! I want to think about it awhile but I can already say that I don't have a clue what Sherri plans to do with Maddie.

I don't have a clue either. Obviously, several players can play multiple positions, plus Sherri could "go big" or "go small" in different situations. Nevertheless, I will get this thing started. I only list each player once.

1 -- Point Guard
> Morgan Hook, Senior, 5-10, 154 .. Lowell, Ark. (Rogers)
> T’Ona Edwards, Freshman, 5-4 .. Oklahoma City (Northeast Academy)

2 – Shooting Guard
> Aaryn Ellenberg, Senior, 5-7, 122 .. Las Vegas, Nev. (Bishop Gorman)
> Gioya Carter, Freshman, 5-9, .. Midwest City, OK (Carl Albert)
> Derica Wyatt, Freshman, 5-10 .. Brentwood, Tenn. (Franklin Road Acad.)

3 – Small Forward and/or “Wing”
> Sharane Campbell, Junior, 5-10, 162 .. Spencer, Okla. (Star Spencer)
> Nicole Kornet, Sophomore, 6-1 .. Lantana, Texas (Liberty Christian School)

4 – Power Forward and/or “Wing”
> Maddie Manning, Freshman, 6-2 .. Ankeny, Iowa (Ankeny High School)
> Shaya Kellogg, Freshman, 6-2 .. Ames, Iowa
> Felisha Gibbs, Freshman, 6-2 .. Earle, Arkansas

5 – Center / Power Forward
> Nicole Griffin, Senior, 6-6, 178 .. Milwaukee, Wis. (Vincent)
> Kaylon Williams, Sophomore, 6-3, 208 .. Midwest City, Okla.
> Portia Durrett, Senior, 6-1, 192 .. Louisville, KY / Walters State; Tenn.

Transfer / Redshiirt
> Payton Little, Sophomore, G, 5-11 .. Abilene, Texas / Texas A&M

Again, I am just getting this started. Call me dummy. Call me stupid. I already admit up front that I don't have a clue.

Traveler, I hope you're right. I believe Maddie is one of the best 5 players and I've always been in favor of starting the best players. I think Maddie would really play well at the PF position.

When rocjunkie and I compared Maddie to Magic, I still think that was accurate. While I see Maddie as a guard due to mobility and handles, like Magic, she can play center if necessary. Maddie is the matchup problem that every team will have. She can take a guard inside, or she can take a forward outside. At this point, I don't exactly know where to put Gioya or Nicole Kornet either.

I think that in order to define a depth chart, we need to know what style Sherri intends to play, maybe against whom.

I agree with the chart Traveler typed up. Also agree that Manning could be the spark we need.

She is faster and quicker than Hand, and maybe deadlier offensively from behind the arc and on the drive. Only time will tell, of course. We need her to be as close to 100 percent as she can be when the preseason rolls around.

I can see several different lineups emerging under certain circumstances, but Traveler's is the most likely.

While I think Maddie is a great player, I don't think she has the build (upper body strength) to be at her most effective at power forward. I think she can excel at any of the first three positions.

I don't think Maddie will play much inside either, other than to create matchup problems. Maddie was recruited as a point. I think she will be where she can handle the ball and create a lot, no matter what you call her position.

I think Traveler has done an excellent job. History tells us that Sherri will stay with a starting five through the season and kids earn their minutes on the practice floor and intensity during games. Since Edwards and Carter are freshmen and inexperienced, I look for Maddie to spell Morgan at the point when need be. However I agree that Maddie is absolutely one of the top 4 kids on this team. With her ability to play multiple positions, this may give Sherri the chance to shake up line ups by going big (Morgan, Aaryn, Maddie, Kaylon, and Nicole), or go small (Morgan, Aaryn, Maddie, Sharane, and Nicole). I think what could happen is fewer minutes, but better production if we can have 9 solid kids, or more. This will be interesting to watch. The key will probably be with how quickly the youngsters grasp on to the system, and if they can grow up during the season.

Syb is right, Maddie can be a Magic type of player. She has a good out side shot, she loves to take it to the rack, not afraid to rebound, and likes to look for open team mates. I want to see her and Sharane on the floor together on opposite wings driving opposing defenses nuts. Do they guard the drive, or play close against the outside shot. We are going to have a very good starting five, regardless who it is, and really good solid reserves. Can't wait to October and the Red/White scrimmage.

I'm probably entirely wrong but I have always thought that KK would be a great p. forward if given experience at the position.

I don't think Maddie's build will prevent her from playing the 4. If Griffin can play the 5 with her build, I would certainly think Maddie would have no trouble playing the 4.

If griffin starts look for the same results win and loses as last year

Almost anyone on the bench can outplay her any day of the week, can't catch, can't shoot, can't rebound, can't dribble. Pretty well sums it up if some of you want to think go ahead.

Maddie will be a great asset coming back

Bet she can play circles around certain posters on this board.

Options, how about posting something new?

Actually if Griffin starts, and she will, we will have a better record than last year and be one of three teams that will win the Big XII.

I'm on the Griffin band wagon too. She has gotten better every year and there is no reason to think that another step forward isn't coming.

Knocking our post player is a good example of the great being the enemy of the good. Just saying.

I agree, and I think we'll have what we wanted to have this last year which is a great competition in the post between Griffin and Williams.

Probably, the only two definite starters on this team are Griffin and Hook. We pretty much have to wait to see how recovered everyone is or where they fit into the system. Each is a bit of a role-player on the team, but their roles are well-defined. Aaryn fits into that category as well. I don't see these three playing anywhere else other than where they have played.

Before Maddie was injured, she was a starter at wing with Whitney kind of at the PF. I look for Maddie to return to the wing with Kay-Kay at PF. But, I look for Sharane and Nicole to be very involved. But, I think the substitutions will not be sliding.

When Hook goes out, will she be replaced by Edwards or Maddie? I look for Maddie at first until we see what Edwards can do. But, who replaces Aaryn? I look for that to be a combination of Maddie, Nicole, and Sharane. What this means is that the style of play and nature of this team will change depending on who is in the game.

I think that when Hook goes out, we may well become a more aggressive team, more likely to sub Griffin out at the same time. This leaves a height gap inside, but adds height to the penetration. It also adds speed to the entire team if Kay-Kay and Maddie replace Hook and Griffin. That is more of a running team.

I don't see a depth chart. I see more of a different team chart.

I have never seen Sherri implement wholesale substitutions and I doubt she will do so this year either.
