Dids this season turn out better or worse

Basketball is about more than offense.

He's also 2nd in FT%
3rd in rebounds
3rd in offensive rebounds
3rd in rebound avg
1st in steals
5th in blocked shots

That's why he plays. That's why he has a bright future at OU. That's why he has a bigger impact on the game than just scoring.

How many times do I have to make this point before you knuckleheads can comprehend it? :p

Our whole team is solid at free throws. Him being 2nd didn't help him make 2 clutch shots when we needed it.

He's also 3rd in MPG so his ranking in certain categories should be higher

I'm trying to be nice here. I have some advice. Lighten up on knocking Buddy. The kid has star qualities. The other posters will be throwing these quotes back in your face a year from now.

The kid is not a star...he only has the potential. You rather take the potential over having a star player. You have no idea if he will be a star...your just glad that we get him for 4 years.

OK, I was just trying to be helpfull. You argue yourself into so many corners, I thought that I would just try to give you a hand on this one.

this coming from a guy that would take Hield over Griffin...just stop

We are more than likely going to the NCAA Tournament. I'm completely satisfied.

Edit: Anyone who isn't happy about what we used to take for granted doesn't realize the job CLK has done here.

Pretty much this right here.

Pledger > Heskett

I disagree. The only reason I could maybe agree is Pledger is a bigger guy.

Heskett based on FG % is a much better shooter, and hes a much better defender. Tim's biggest downfall was he wasn't a great ballhandler so not a PG, and not athletic enough to play the 2G. But he was a solid player overall. Not to say Pledger isn't solid because he's gotten much better this year.

No offense to Pledger, but I'd take Tm Heskett over him any day. Better shooter, better defender, better attitude, better leader. That makes up for the difference in athleticism.

Pledger has a better career FG%, 41.9% for Pledger and 39.2% for Heskett. Heskett has the edge in 3 PT% as he shot 39.8% and Pledger is at 37.3%. Pledger has the better FT%, 82.6% compared to 81.5. Heskett didn't come close to having a year statistically like Pledger did last year in scoring, shooting, rebounding, etc. Pledger obviously has him in all the other stats as well but he also played more minutes but even projecting them out Pledger still has the statistical edge. Pledger has been voted All Big 12 3rd team this year and honorable mention last year, Heskett never sniffed that. As for defense, Heskett was far from a great defender. He was better than Pledger before he got hurt and not better after he got hurt but IMO the edge defensivdly doesn't come close to tipping the scale for Heskett. Heskett was a solid player but you and a number of others vastly overrate IMO

Heskett was never on a team as bad as last years, which Pledger and Osby was really our only scoring options. I don't think you can use that to validate your argument but you make good points on everything else. As mentioned earlier, Heskett didn't really have a position because he wasn't a college PG and neither was he a college 2G. Pledger is not a PG, 2G or in an ideal world a 3. Both would ideally be a role player, zone buster type player.

I will also concede that Capel did Pledger no favors and had Pledger had a decent coach all 4 years he would be further along than he is now. Capel had him playing PG 2 years ago which was a major disservice to Steven. I like the improvement he's made this year and wish he had 1 more year left. Too bad he didn't redshirt that miserable 2010 season, and the same for Fitz. Both are really playing pretty good ball the last 10 games (minus the TCU game for Pledger).

no coach in the ncaa would agree with you

We underachieved due to inconsistency. It's to be expected giving so many minutes to first year players but very disheartening for it to snowball downhill at the end vs okie jr, ut & tcu.

You are 100% correct. There is no way Tim Heskett was anywhere near as good as Steven Pledger. Tim never garnered THAT much attention from the opposition. After their sophomore years, one could make and argument that they were close...but not after factoring all four years. Heck, if OU can play in four or five more games, Pledge can become the team's all-time 3-point shooter.

Some of these comparisons I'm reading from our fan base are mind-blowing.

What is the point of comparing Tim to Pledger?

Pledger is an excellent, if streaky, 3 point shooter who is an average defender. He may end up with the 3 point shot record for OU by the end of this year.

Tim was also an excellent 3 point shooter. He busted his rear on defense and suffered from bad back his last 2 years at OU, which affected his shot and his minutes on the court the last 2 years.

WT compared them in one of his posts...

I seem to remember that there weren't many who were predicting we would make the dance. Particularly after some of the early losses.

I suspect that many of the pessamists haven't posted on this thread.
