There you got. That is the thought path it takes to get to Mateer being much better than he's been. He needs a mental reset, and he probably won't get that until the offseason, though I would expect him to look better in a playoff game simply by having 3 weeks to help "reset".I don’t think we’ll ever really know how much the thumb bothered him versus Texas. But it wouldn’t shock me if he was cleared prematurely and/or aggravated it during the game.
I think he was throwing at around 80% or so during the Texas game, but the not practicing for three weeks got him. He wasn’t mentally prepared for the big stage and made some serious mental errors which snowballed on him. And now I think the staff is screaming into his ear “Don’t turn the ball over,” which has also affected his play some too.
He was much lower than 80%. Much lower.
