Frank Booker update

Did I read that blurb right, that he only averaged 29% from 3 on over 100 attempts? Frank's shot may be broken! I hope a year with Coach Martin and, perhaps, a more balanced scoring approach bring him better results.

You read it right. Pretty much how he was his last year here as well. He had a nice looking shot, but that's the only reason he had a reputation as a shooter. It didn't go in very often.

Strange, too. Frank was an outstanding shooter from deep in high school. His shot went south at OU for some reason and he never got it back. Let's hope that changes with CJ this season!

People were ready to fight me in the other thread for saying this exact thing.

You yourself acknowledged you overstated in that other thread.

I have no ill-will toward Booker; I hope the best for him. I really do.

But we didn't have a spot for him then, don't have a spot for him now, and didn't even have a spot for him last year (and last year was awful). He put up horrible numbers as a sophomore, and then again as a junior. I suppose it's possible that a fifth-year senior finally puts it together, but I wouldn't hold my breath. He wasn't a good ball handler, defender, passer, etc. He was only a shooter, and statistically speaking, he couldn't shoot. We very often have five guys on the floor that do a better job of getting the ball in the hole from long range. I'd rather have a guy like Spangler, Osby, or Taylor pulling up from 3, and that's not what those guys were on the court to do. The stats back me up on that.

Again, I hope he makes the most of his senior year, but the notion that he was a good shooter for us needs to be squashed.

I don't think anyone's recently expressed disappointment that he's not still here, nor has anyone claimed he was a good shooter overall.

He was a streaky shooter who too seldom got hot, but when he did, he could help a team. He helped us win more than once -- but not often enough.
