Gottlieb new ksu coach?

Doug knows the game and the name recognition nationally would be invaluable to recruiting. If he was smart enough to surround himself with experienced assistants, he might not be a bad choice.

Better hope he hires a shooting coach, though. :D

Will all the players have their pants on backwards... as a move of solidarity?

holy cow... that is a really long article about something that has zero chance of happening. I would love to see it because I love Dougie but wowzers, come on now.

They should give the Man of Denim a try. It could be the octagon of doom and denim

It would be a joke for Gottlieb to get that kind of job with no coaching experience and especially where someone like Steve Henson is way more qualified. Of course it would be better for us to take Gottlieb and leave Henson because I could see Henson as our head coach someday. Another question would Gottlieb ego allow him to hire good assistants and then let them coach without constant interference. I would say no.

I'm glad someone agrees. I know it's a bit of a risk given his past but I think the Denim Dude would be a great fit.

Style of play is similar to Martin
Knows the area/conference
Price should be right
Exile = Hungry

And hopefully someone else to handle finances.

He's very, very good friends with the Assc. AD and some think that will possibly get him an interview with Currie. He's been on the radio here really pushing hard for it. You never know. Did the Mayor have any experience?

Had a job in the Timberwolves front office.

Not to mention Hoiberg also played for many years in the NBA.Gottleib hasn't played at a decent level, since, when? 10 years ago? And never in the NBA, much less having ever coached. I remember a few guys coming straight out of the 'booth'. Bob Brenly did it with the D-Backs. But he played a million years in the big leagues. Steve Lavin was previously a head coach...there may be a few others. Ray Perkins went from being a hack on ESPN to coaching, but his coaching resume was long. There are a lot of other examples of that sort of thing. Almost all of them have coached, and if they didn't coach, they played the game at its highest level.

I would argue that Gottleib to KSU would be, all things considered, unprecedented.

I don't think playing in the NBA makes you a better college coach.

No. But playing more certainly doesn't hurt, and NBA ties will help recruiting.

Seriously... what does Gottlieb tell kids to convince them to sign with ksu?

The guy was raised around basketball as a coach's son. He displays a tremendous knowledge of the game. Is it a huge leap to go straight to a head job at KSU? Absolutely. However, let's not paint him as someone that knows squat about the game. I would imagine Doug would have plenty to tell a recruit, and the one task he would have no problem doing would be recruiting. Gottlieb is extremely personable, and I would expect he would be a force on the recruiting trail. Every kid he talks to dreams about the NBA and ESPN. The ESPN would get him in a lot of doors to hear his pitch.

Surely their a bigger hires out there for KSU, but I don't doubt he could pop up real soon in coaching.
