Grading the first two weeks of practice

I'll confess, I am bit surprised to hear that our interior offense is complete, but that our interior defense is struggling. Based on our returning players I thought interior offense would be a big question mark, but defense was something we wouldn't have to worry about.

Thanks
Nice writeup. I am surprised to hear that exterior D and interior O are strengths

I thought that Lattin/Mcnease would be one of the bigger combos in the league. Is that not the case? Mcnease looked like he had the frame to be huge last year

According to SoonerSports Lattin is 6'9" and weighs 212 while McNeace is 6'10" and 215. To give perspective, Christian James is 6'4" and weighs 218. The interior post players are going to have to really fight to hold position, block out, etc against bigger players.

Gaining weight is not always a given. Lattin and McNeace may struggle to pack on the pounds, even with what is almost certainly a strict diet and exercise program. I was like that when I was young, rail thin at just under 6' 2". Oh, what I wouldn't give to metabolize food at the same rate now! :ez-laugh:

Mattie Freeman is listed at 6' 10" 224, which is another reason I believe he'll play quality minutes, even if he doesn't start. That extra nine pounds over Khadeem's listed weight will help him inside against the bigs he'll face. Freeman's unique size and skill set are the main reason I think he'll play and play often.

I agree with you. I think both Freeman and Doolittle will be in the rotation, and get more minutes than McNeace.

I'm very impressed with the author of these articles. When I worked at the Daily back in the Pleistocene era, football had become so all-consuming that they wouldn't allow anyone to have a sports beat. People like me, who were contributing (or trying to contribute) sports columns still had to go off on other parts of campus for their assigned beats. "But I WANT to be a sportswriter!" Didn't matter. There was some serious resentment of the AD back then by knuckle-dragging academics who headed the Gaylord College.

Jerks.

This kid does a great job covering the hoops beat. I hope it continues.

I couldn't agree more about Derek Peterson. I have already gone on record about the great job he's doing in reporting on OU basketball.

As for the academics you referenced at Gaylord College. If they failed to recognize and appreciate your writing skills, you're being more than kind by calling them jerks. You're one of the best writers I know.

Back quite a few years ago, the very first All American basketball player for the Sooners passed away. I called the Daily to inform them, as this gentleman was a friend, and I thought an important person in the history of Sooner Basketball. Those in charge of the Daily could not have cared less. and never even put a small blurb in the paper. That would not have happened in the present.

Was that Don Sidle? Great player back in the 60's.
