Great win by Duke/K/Capel

The out of bounds call was terrible. The duke players finger bent backwards as he touched it. Everyone was so concerned about "the flight of the ball" that the most obvious piece of evidence was missed.

And here we go with the razzing from the "officiating doesn't impact games" crowd.

I just get tired of all the "we lost and it's the refs' fault" B.S. and it's especially pronounced when Duke wins a big game. Yes, they missed the call when Winslow stepped out of bounds. It's also possible that he touched that ball that went out of bounds but it wasn't obvious from the replay. Anyone being honest could, at best, say "I think he touched it but I'm not 100% sure."

Even so, that's 2 calls and I'll bet none of the Wisconsin fans here will complain about the missed charge on Hayes. Calls matter but it's unreasonable to expect refs to be perfect and yet the first complaint that people have when their team doesn't win is "it's the refs' fault." Some of these same people complaining now about the refs were, in other threads, mocking those Kentucky teenagers for their immaturity and for being "sore losers."

Duke won this down the stretch with great defense and fantastic, tough performances on offense by Allen and Jones. Wisconsin was up 9 with Okafor and Winslow on the bench --no one from Wisconsin was in foul trouble, Btw -- and they couldn't score for nearly 5 minutes. Late, down 3 they took bad shots and lost their composure on offense. That's why Duke won.

You guys can whine about the refs and blame them but this was a great, if imperfect, basketball game and the team who played the best and deserved to win won. Real basketball will appreciate what a great game that was and how great Duke played down the stretch to earn the victory.

No game is referee'd perfectly. I thought Wisky got a few calls early. The out of bounds call was close. I didn't see the ball change flight, but it looked like it was probably touched. If it isn't definitive, they aren't suppose to reverse it.

There were a few questionable calls, but they nailed Okafor just about every time he was near a questionable play. The refs didn't cost Wisconsin this game. They just didn't execute down the stretch.

WT, I think either you or someone close to you is/was was an official. lol.

I agree that Wisconsin folded mentally the last 8 minutes of the game, they forgot what got them to the finals, imo.

lol, right on cue.

I was pulling for Wisconsin, and I had no problems with the officiating.

And you, too -- right on cue.

You had no problem with the officiating? Fair enough, you're certainly entitled to that opinion. But does that, in your mind, decide the matter? Because on the three calls that I thought especially impacted this game, the TV announcers agreed with me. So while I deeply respect your expertise and insight -- truly, I do -- this one time (and I can't believe I'm even saying this), I think you're wrong.

You must be a duke fan. Bc everybody in te nation. Even the commentators are one hundred percent sure the ball was touched. No doubt about it. Same level of confidence that Allen Patrick recovered the onside kick

The call that surprised me was when the Duke player stepped on the baseline right in front of the official. Okafor hit the basket but missed the and 1 but it put them up by 3.

The other blatant call was when Winslow ran over the middle of the Wisc defender, and got 2 FT's. Obvious charge.

Duke was way more aggressive slashing to the basket but they did a good job exploiting their quickness advantage.

Picking three calls out of a game, and crying about one-side officiating is lame. So Wisconsin got no calls? Not all game?

It's bad enough to whine about the officiating after an OU game. But now you guys do it after other teams' games too. Come on. The common theme here seems to be when the team you want to win doesn't, you blame the refs.

The issue is that the calls that benefitted duke all happened at the end of the game

Winslow should have gotten called for 2 charges in the second half.

This.

I by no means thought the officiating was bad all game long, but in the final five minutes, three questionable calls benefited Duke greatly.

So you think the refs wanted Duke to win, and called the game that way?

That sounds crazy to me.

Doesn't matter. Points scored early in the game count the same as points scored late in the game. Wisconsin had their chances, and they blew it. They let the lead slip away in the first half with Okafor and Winslow on the bench. and they let their 2nd half lead slip away. Same thing they did against UK, but they were able to get one more offensive run late in that game. They couldn't do that tonight. Reminded me of OU all season giving away those big leads. You do it enough, you end up losing some of those games. That isn't on the refs.

With how the ncaa is, if there was a bias, it would definitely lean toward duke lol

If you believe that ball wasn't touched, you either didn't watch the game, missed the replay, have a tiny TV or are blind. With that said, Wisconsin blew the game

Any mention of the fact that Okarfor and Winslow were sitting out for crucial minutes due to foul trouble, or the no-call on the homerun layup?

Get out of here with that NCAA wanting Wisconsin to lose trash. They wouldn't even be in this game if it weren't for Nigel Hayes' 36 shot clock.
