Great win by Duke/K/Capel

Picking three calls out of a game, and crying about one-side officiating is lame. So Wisconsin got no calls? Not all game?

It's bad enough to whine about the officiating after an OU game. But now you guys do it after other teams' games too. Come on. The common theme here seems to be when the team you want to win doesn't, you blame the refs.

No, the common theme here is that any time someone questions the officiating after a loss, you and a small handful of others puff out your chests and go all Internet Tough Guy on the poster in question (sometimes it's me; sometimes it isn't). I guess it makes you feel superior? I don't really know.

There's a block-poster feature on this board, so if you really find my posts so off-putting, fair enough -- block me! You'll be doing me and the rest of the board a huge favor. Because your objections have been heard and noted, but they don't change anything. I'm not going anywhere and I'm still going to complain about the officiating now and then in the course of a season when I feel it was sufficiently one-sided or inept to have impacted a game (not surprisingly, you vastly overstated above how often I do this). If you just can't handle that, please block me now. We'll both live longer, happier lives.

As for your "just three calls??" hysterics above, had the three calls that the TV announcers and I all felt were poor ones had been called the other way, it's easy to see how Wisconsin might have emerged victorious. To compare poor late-game calls to bad calls made in the first half is as specious an argument as I hope to ever encounter on this or any other board. Ask 1,000 players, coaches and fans whether they'd rather get a series of key breaks from the officials late in the second half of a championship game or in the first half of that game, easily 999 of them would opt for the second half -- and you'd probably ascertain later that the one outlier had misunderstood the question.

Careful sky, he might start stalking you since you disagree with him. Like he did Gary and coachtalk

Any mention of the fact that Okarfor and Winslow were sitting out for crucial minutes due to foul trouble, or the no-call on the homerun layup?

Get out of here with that NCAA wanting Wisconsin to lose trash. They wouldn't even be in this game if it weren't for Nigel Hayes' 36 shot clock.

they didn't show a replay of the "homerun layup" so can't see if there was a foul.

Okafor and winslow are lucky they didn't foul out. The refs were very favorable toward them in the last 10 minutes of the game. They both should have been done by a couple of fouls. I'm sure it all resulted from Coach K *****ing at halftime

Okafor and Winslow should have been fouled out and that out of bounds replay is absolutely the worst bball call I've seen.

I hate Duke but I am not sure I would call that out of bounds call the worst ever. I could not see the contact the first several times I watched the replay. I do think the Duke player touched the ball because I think the rotation changed, however I don't that the refs had the same replay and I could see them saying it is not indisputable evidence.

Winslow charged and there were some other questionable calls but the reason Duke won is Decker couldn't hit any outside shots.

Winslow's finger clearly is bent backward by the force of the contact with the ball when he touched it. Disregard the spin on the ball and everything else. That was the most obvious aspect of why that ball was touched.

That said, Wisconsin lost because they ran an ugly ass offense of dribbling the ball around outside the 3-point line, and then if Kaminsky got the ball in the post, forcing it up on his first touch.

c'mon. The replay officials have all of the angles that we see on TV. There were several angles that left absolutely no doubt that he touched it. No doubt at all.

No need to be confused.

Duke shot 20 free throws, Wisconsin shot 10. That is the determining factor of the outcome. Turn it around and have those called in a way that gives Duke 10 fewer FTs and Wisconsin 10 more. It likely creates a 12 point swing. - changing the outcome. It happens when officials miss several calls and consistently reward one team with all of them. Anyone who thinks officiating is not a factor in game outcomes is incredibly naïve.

The thing that is hard to know is why did they miss them? Just poor officiating? We have been told they assign officials to the championship game because they are highly rated. Bias? Maybe, maybe not. Other more nefarious reasons? You simply cannot know. That is why the NBA ref - considered the best in the league - lasted 10 years while shaving points for gambling interests.

I turned off the game at about the 8 or 9 minute mark because it had become clear what was going to happen officiating wise the last part of the game - and it did. Just go back and look at the game again if you recorded it.

It was definitive. His finger bent and the ball stopped rotating momentarily.. sad in a natty

This... I mean, why even have the ****ing replay if these clowns can't see clear cut evidence. His finger bent. It was clear as crystal. Duke goes down the next possession and hits a 3.

Doesn't matter. Points scored early in the game count the same as points scored late in the game. Wisconsin had their chances, and they blew it. They let the lead slip away in the first half with Okafor and Winslow on the bench. and they let their 2nd half lead slip away. Same thing they did against UK, but they were able to get one more offensive run late in that game. They couldn't do that tonight. Reminded me of OU all season giving away those big leads. You do it enough, you end up losing some of those games. That isn't on the refs.

I thought #10 on Wisconsin's team was a major liability most of the night.

I didn't notice the finger bending. I am not saying it didn't happen but what convinced me was the change in the rotation. Something has to cause that to happen.

I saw several angles where I could not tell if he touched the ball. That is all I am saying.

I do agree the officials got it wrong but I am not sure I would say worst call ever.

AND I HATE DUKE

It was there. It was very noticeable from a couple of the angles.

Yep...CBS had an angle that was indisputable. Easy call. They either didn't have access to that angle, are blind or are crooked.
