I am inclined to believe that JC does want out of Oklahoma. This is mostly due to his silence.

But...what did WE do wrong? I don't see any major problems created by the fans, students, administration etc... .

If it's "lack of support" I actually think he's been pretty well supported since he came to Norman.

If it's "inconsistent fan attendance early in the season" well....welcome to football country. Football pays the bills and is a cash monster so you can't fault it taking some air out of the basketball bravado. Plus OU is historically pretty darn good at it.

I am really at a loss to be sympathetic if someone is "looking to get out". OU certainly has some blemishes and it's not a traditional power ... but you can win big here and the programs are on a solid financial basis (which is more than a majority of schools can say these days).

So F'em if they wanna leave. I side with OU.

If you look back, there are several instances where "Duke Coaching Tree" coaches have, when things go badly, either wanted out or were asked to leave. In business one of the most often given advice is "the trend is your friend". The trend for Duke trained coaches failing is definitely down hill. We bucked the trend and, I'm afraid, we may have lost dearly.

I'm afraid you may be right!!

I'm left wondering the same thing myself. He seemed to be genuinely happy when first arriving. Knowing Blake would soon be arriving may have had something to do with that. The only thing I can think of is he wanted back down in ACC country, although his wife and kids love it here. When it comes to coach that's one thing I have no clue on, thought I did but didn't.

What makes you think that he doesn't want to be here. Has he not turned down jobs since being here?

The question is whether or not you want to support OU basketball or OU winners. Because there is a name for that and its called Banwagon Fans.

Capel hasn't said anything about leaving.

capel hasn't said anything. he only tweeted about "rumors" that appear to be more than rumors. give me some kind of reassurance. anything, like the lloyd noble center will still be standing come november.

here's the thing about bandwagon fans you keep referring to on here. in a 13-17 season, those fans bailed by the end of january. bandwagon fans aren't worried about OU basketball, they care about who the second string defensive end is going to be, or the third string qb.

the people who do post here and continue to do so during this incredibly trying time are people who care. they care a lot and are very passionate about this program. i am 30, and have spent 25 years of my life dedicated to OU basketball. there is no bandwagon for people on this board like me, because i'm all in. have been since i stepped foot in the lloyd noble center as a 5 year old. if any poster on here wants to question anything about this program right now, or throw out a few names who they think might be good candidates if we are left without a coach, our love for all things OU basketball should never be questioned because of it.

and as much as i hate to play this card because it's childish, i'm going to anyway because i'm immature as much as i am loyal. i don't think someone with 33 posts should be coming on here continuing to call out "bandwagon" fans. i would call that fail.

the "duke coaching tree" thing is pretty annoying... he never coached at duke, he played but never coached there... he cut his teeth under his dad at odu before moving on to vcu... im sorry, but being a former player is differnt than being in a coaching tree when he never coached there...

I've got even fewer posts than that but I agree with the previous posts that there are probably no bandwagon fans around here by now. The wheels fell off the bandwagon back in the mountains of Alaska.

Unfortunately bandwagon fans have a strong presence on OU message boards. Some have attended 10 times as many FB games than BB games but will post on OU BB boards, most usually after defeats and bad times like these.

To answer the thread question. We have done nothing wrong.

If "we" did anything wrong, I cant imagine what it might have been. Neither the fans, the administration nor all but perhaps two of the team. I think Joe C would tell Capel if Capel is talking to Clemson or anyone else, that he would be best advised to take the first coaching job available anywhere. Joe C. like the rest of us requires loyalty.

Yeah, I've kind of noticed that bandwagonism at times - at least their comments usually force them out of the closet for the rest of us to heckle.

You know, the more I think about the Clemson/Wake reports the more I think the S.C. beat writers are drinking the message board Kool-Aid as well. I mean, if Capel's that kind of guy, a bunch of us (including Joe C) are as dead wrong on judging his character as Capel was on the knuckleheads.

I mean, who has a job where they have three years of progress and positive reviews, then one really crappy year and quits? Who hires an assistant coach and recruits three guys who stink up the place, then leaves, insuring a bad reputation at the first major job they had? If that's the case he's a lot less the future HOF coach I thought he was and more scumbag. At least Kelvin, after years of success, thought he was an untouchable basketball god and moving to Indiana meant free rollover minutes from Oklahoma...well, that's crappy too.

I could kind of see Joe C. coming in angry after the TMZ stuff broke and said, "None of you say a freaking word to the media until I get to the bottom of this thing. If someone leaves the program, put it in a press release. Once I figure out what's going on, I'll decide what we do next, and then we'll talk to the media. Don't screw it up worse by saying something you'd regret later."

I agree especially considering having 2 really bad teams and one okay team and one really good team.

I think you are right it is a football school but early in the season attendance is going to be fairly low in most of the country. I've even read quotes from guys like Coach K about how poor the attendance is there early in the season. Of course that's relative. In December most students aren't on campus. In November they are more worried about getting their school finished for that semester.

I am really at a loss to be sympathetic if someone is "looking to get out". OU certainly has some blemishes and it's not a traditional power ... but you can win big here and the programs are on a solid financial basis (which is more than a majority of schools can say these days).

I agree. If he doesn't want to stay here it's because of the job he's put himself in. In other words he's basically screwed himself over if anything.

Is it too much to ask for to have both?

It's not fair to criticize Jeff for trying to leave since, in all liklihood, he is not. You're basing your post on media rumors. We know how often they are false -look at the times Stoops was "rumored" to be interested in a job. Wait until Jeff actually gives some indication he is trying to leave. Then rip him.
