Honestly, anybody we get is an upgrade over Capel's last 2 years

wow, that's just great.

we've gotten to the point where you guys feel ANYONE is fine.

if that's the case...then hire BRUCE PEARL. if you just don't care then we should hire the best coach available and say "who cares" to the show cause.

at least if Pearl were hired our program and fans would be improving during the interim instead of us just sitting around with this lame duck loser coach who would be hired as "anybody".
Would rather have Pearl, but Joe won't do that. Would've rather had BCG, Joe thought he wasn't good enough. I am not on any bandwagon at this point. None of the people on this list would be a good hire. Joe messed this up by hiring Capel when we had other options out there. Like it or not Marshall, Jones, Jacobsen, etc. are just another version of Jeff Capel. Only difference is they coach in this area now. My thing with Fran is that he wouldn't be permanent, but I think he may bring in some talent. He is a name that people know. I don't think any of the guys listed as potentials would be here beyond five years.

To call Marshall & Jones another version of Capel is simply ignorant, sorry.

Fraschilla's not my most favorite hire, but I'd rather him than Johnny Jones or any of the names Doug Gottlieb is serving up.

Herb Sendek? no thanks
Randy Bennett? no thanks
Ben Jacobsen? no thanks

Agreed with Johnny Jones.

Curious, how come you prefer Fran over those guys? Those 3 you mentioned are not undeniably better than Fran, but I think each can make an argument for being a better candidate than him. And for the record, none of those guys do anything for me, either.

Bottom line, I don't think Fran would be an "okay" hire. I think it would be an awful one.

Heck...bring Gene Keady back. He would be better than anybody on Doug's list.

The good news is Doug has 0 insiders in the OU program.

He is just another guy standing back and watching like all of us.

I think Fran would bring in some good assistants, and I think he has a chip on his shoulder after the way his run at UNM ended. I also think it would be a splash hire because of his work on ESPN and it would get us some ESPN pub.

I think he's better than the ones I listed because Fran was successful at SJU which is a major institution. He recruited Postell and Artest so he can recruit good talent. Those other 3 guys have never had to prove anything outside of a mid-major and that is a big jump for a lot of coaches.

If we fire Capel only to hire a guy who actually had a WORSE record than Capel did this past season then it will be like dropping a nuclear bomb on the program in the eyes of many fans.

I am a very patient fan but I would come out of my ****ing skin if this happened.

My implication was that Jones or Marshall would be no more successful than Capel was while he was here. That is what I meant by another Capel. Should have phrased it better. However, Jones is coaching in a MUCH weaker conference than Capel was in and went 8-8. Just not on board with a Jones hire. And by many on this boards admission, Marshall is not a good Xs & Os guy. He gets caught up in trying to rile up fans when he should be coaching. In some cases he will turn his back to the floor (which is similar to putting ones head in their hands) to pump up the crowd. If you can't see that Jones and Marshall are just as risky as any other name out there, you are ignorant. It is all conjecture at this point. No one is going to be pleased with how this turns out.

Nope.

I mean hire somebody older who has experience who would look at this as a reclamation project and then ride off into the sunset.

Kevin Stallings and maybe Fran Fraschilla fit this description. Lon Kruger if you could get him would be the best option but Dean says Lon won't leave LV.

That makes a lot more sense.

I figure if we get a young coach who becomes super successful, he's liable to leave for a bigger job anyway, so why not?

I am liking Kruger at this point. What kind of $ does he make in vegas?

He was at St. Johns for two years, and only had a winning record one of those years. Hardly a record of sustained success at a school in a major conference.

He completely torpedoed the New Mexico program and hasn't coached in ten years. It would be the definition of failing upwards for him to get the OU job. We aren't in that bad of shape yet. It would be a ridiculous hire by Joe C.

i would ALMOST support a Terry Evans hire over Fran.

ALMOST

I thought he was at SJU 3 or 4 years?

You also have to consider what he did at Manhattan. He built that program from scratch.

If it's Herb Sendek, I'm paying for the uhaul truck to be parked outside of Joe's house.

I just need somebody in Norman to drive it there and drop it off.

Sendek And Fraschilla are the same--****ing disasters--I will pull my own eyes out if we hire either of them.

So of the names out there, would we be happy with any of them? This is an EPIC failure by this administration if we end up with any of the coaches remaining (assuming Kruger won't come here). I don't want Fran. It is a bad hire. Jones is a bad hire. Marshall is a bad hire. Some say Stallings, but I don't think anyone will be that excited about him getting the job.

He was at St. John's for two years, and had one losing season. He did a nice job at Manhattan but that is basically just a Tri-State Area conference. The last time Fran Fraschilla had any modicum of established basketball success was 15 years ago. He hasn't coached a basketball game or recruited a player in a decade.

The most up to date number I could find was $1.2m

OK...you convinced me. Take Fran off the list.
