Smart suspended three games...

...which changes the complexion of our game in Stillwater. Their starting lineup would be:

Brown
Nash
Forte
Murphy
Williams

With Sager and Hammonds coming off the bench. It puts the ball in Forte's hands as point and reduces his impact as a spot up shooter. Will be interesting to see what happens.

It would likely be an OU blowout with a less than stellar OsU crowd.

That certainly changes Bedlam from a game we could win, or a 50/50 game, to a game we SHOULD win.

Doesn't matter how talented your starters are, with a bench like that, they will have a tough time beating anybody.

The pace we play will play into that as well. OSU isn't disciplined enough to slow the game down to a grind like they would need to.

The crowd will be fired up in stoolwater even if its not completely full. I think we win but a blowout is not likely.

That and our pressure D should work a bit better with more Forte and less Smart.

I fear "The Ewing Theory" coming into play if/when Smart is suspended/dismissed. I've believed for weeks that Markel Brown is their best player anyway.

If they had a bench to speak of, I would be concerned too. But Sager and Hammonds off the bench just can't compete.

As long as brown and Nash don't combine for 50 points I think we win by double digits. Are up tempo style is either going to make them tired or get into foul trouble. Also we should now beat them even more on the boards.

I hope you're right, but I'm not confident enough of the win to predict an OU blowout. We have all seen depleted teams respond with an inspired effort when their back is against the wall. Even if Smart is not available for that game, I would take a one point win right now and be happy.

I know Smart is a good player. But, they might get better results without him. It couldn't get much worse than the last 6 games.

I agree with this. He has been a distraction this year and not all of it is his fault. The media just can't stop praising the guy, even when it's undeserved.

Agreed 100%. The biggest reason for their slide isn't Smart. It's the loss of Cobbins and Clark, because they came into the season with 8 guys who were big12 quality players. That was their rotation, and like us, they were already thin in the frontcourt. Cobbins was their only decent rebounder and shot-blocker. He wasn't a great player, but they had nobody behind him who can do what he did. When he went down, they became a team with little to no front-court, and not enough bodies to run and gun like you expect with a 4 guard lineup. Clark getting booted just limited that rotation even more.

Add to that, Ford doesn't really seem to have any idea how to run a half-court offense and set up good looks for good spot-up shooters. They take bad shots and have little chance of getting many offensive rebounds.

Still, with all this, they aren't an easy team to beat. They have a ton of talent in their starting lineup, and if Smart ever gets his outside shot going again, They'll start winning some of these close games that they have been losing lately.

Back on topic, if Smart misses any real time, they are down to 5 players who really belong at this level. Anybody else is just a foul magnet. That's not an easy situation to win any games in this conference.

With that lineup, it would be easy for a team like OU to draw a ton of fouls and live on the free throw line all night, even on the road.

Beware. OU won at Stillwater without Blake Griffin.

It will be tough to win at GIA no matter what.

He will be suspended.

Agreed. But if his suspension is for multiple games it will be done by the B12. No way the pukes suspend him for the OU game. Their suspension would be a one game suspension and he could play against the Sooners.

I understand the point, but it simply isn't true.

Smart scores 17 a game and largely makes their offense go, and as others have mentioned, their bench without him is literally nonexistent.

I definitely buy into the Ewing Theory, so I wouldn't want to be Texas Tuesday or to a lesser extent us on Saturday. But man, they'll basically be playing with five-and-a-half serviceable players.

Sager, God bless him, is worthless. Hammonds is too, for the most part.

Agree as well. I can't see Ford wanting to do anything, but I can't imagine the B12 not making sure he gets at least 3 games.

He'll be gone for the OU game. Mark it down. Big 12 is doing the suspending.
