If you support Capel you don't have OU BB pride

I don't understand why true OU fans want to give Capel another year.
Those that want to give Capel another year help me understand, answer this question.

Why do you accept complete failure from OU's basketball coach 3 out of 5 years but 99.9% of OU fans would never accept this from a OU football coach?

I can argue John Blake had a better and more respected football program than this current Capel program. Its okay to fire Blake after 2 bad seasons but not Capel? Is basketball just something to do before spring football practices?

Dont be a frontrunner... When things are going good, Life is good. But when crap hits the fan, you question others support for the OU basketball program.

Get a life frontrunner.

When TV Announcers point out that we are trying to play a Zone Defense with our hands down its time to do something.

By all means, let's hire the tv announcers then. We would win the NCAA tournament every year then.

I didn't know that the basketball program had had a Bud Wilkinson to build a tradition.

having pride in the program should prevent one from slamming the program on a message board, but instead speaking to the AD if one felt strongly.

Jeff Capel should be given a chance to right the ship

Precisely.

This comparison gets so old that its not even funny anymore. I like how the OP is implying that he's frustrated at other people for being confused about OU's program, when he is the one making confusing and irrational comparisons.

Sure Capel is struggling, and its frustrating to watch... But there is no comparison to him and John Blake. Period.

I agree Blake could recruit! and keep some of them.

Forgot about Bennie Owen?
Exactly. How can you overlook a guy that won 124 games at OU? That's why OU is so special, they now have 4 coach's that won over 100 games. I think I saw a stat they are also the only one with 3.

This thread is awful. As long as anyone bases their opinion on what they think is good for the program, then they have pride for OU. Don't confuse a difference in opinion with a difference in values.

We also didn't only have Nate Carter inside. We also had Taylor Griffin and Longar Longar.

That team also had Austin Johnson, David Goldbold, and Michael Neal.

The repeated claims, as if it's a written-in-stone fact, that the cupboard was bare that season are nothing but revisionist history.

Let's see...all those players you listed above PLUS Kevin Bookout, Terrell Everett and Taj Gray....and the 2006 team won a total of 20 games. So, we substitute the three best players I just mentioned with three raw freshmen...and how many games is the 2007 team supposed to win? Well, if it was anywhere near 20, that would qualify as a far more revisionist theory than the cupboard being empty.

The REALITY is the 2007 team was a borderline NIT team...and a more seasoned coach probably would have squeezed out another win or two and nudged their way into the NIT. BIG DEAL. A 31 year old coach having a winning record with that team was far from a failure.

As for the title of this thread, my stance on Coach Capel has not changed since the start of this season. As long as the team is playing hard and staying in most games, I will support Capel being here another season. However, he needs to pick things up in the late recruiting session. He also needs OU to be an NCAA Tournament caliber team next year for me to want him to stay past that season. If this means I don't have OU basketball pride, well, I guess I'll just somehow have to live with myself.

Those two Announcers were great players i watched them play and believe me they didn't have their arms down when they played Zone or standing straight up in man Defense.

Forgot about Bennie Owen?

Although he has a field named after him, OU was not a national power under Owen. We were undefeated once and weren't even considered for a national title. We were just that little team in the great plains.
