If you support Capel you don't have OU BB pride

Of all this great talent Capel inherited please do tell which one was All Big XII caliber? Because none of them made the 1st, 2nd or even 3rd team all conference.

Capel inherited a program devoid of talent and saddled with probation. It's just so funny to watch the least knowledgeable fans make the most noise. Reminds me of a tea party with old people yelling "The government better keep their hands off my Medicare".

Seriously can anybody name a coach who destroyed two programs worse than Sampson? His NCAA ban speaks for itself, as do OU and Indiana still trying to dig their way out of the hole he dug with his dishonesty.

Thats all well and great, but OU went to the Elite 8 under Capel and has followed that up with back to back losing seasons (unless this team surprises down the stretch).

The time for blaming Sampson is over. Capel has had MORE than enough time and success to overcome Sampsons phone calls.

What we have now is 100% Capel's fault.

wow looks like abd the hater is back out in full force... Look some of it is Capels fault but come on he recruited two talented kids and if they would of bought into the system last year out would be a top 4 team in the league right now.. It is hard to recover from loosing that kind of talent especially when they are not supposed to leave when they did. I will give him another year

The state of our program right now isn't Sampson's fault. That isn't to defend him for leaving us in a bad place. But we had the best player in the country, an elite 8 team, and a bushel full of MCDAA's, and it blew up last year under Capel's watch. Sampson had nothing to do with bringing those guys here, or for the meltdown that happened while they were here.

I think we give Capel one year to show a big improvement. Whether he "deserves" it or not isn't even at issue with me. It's most likely what is best for the program at this point in time.

It's time to stop blaming Sampson.

I don't agree with the intent or premise of the OP. This isn't about Capel so much as it is about OU basketball. I wouldn't care if Billy Tubbs, Kelvin Sampson, or Mike Krzyzewski were coaching the sooners and had back-to-back losing seasons, they are going to feel some heat.

I support the program not because of the coach but because of the school.

Having said that, I'm hoping this is just a bump in the road for the program and it will come back stronger once everything is corrected. I do see better days ahead considering the performance this season.

Besides, I was surprised we stayed in the Mizzou game as long as we did.

Anyone think that maybe Capel wants out as much as some wants him out?

You guys are correct comparing Capel to Blake is a stretch, Blake was bad every year.

Doesn't change my opinion of Capel or how he has destroyed this program. Capel's roster is mid major at best. What conference could this team win? This is Capel's fault.

I expect more from our BB program just like our FB program. Why are you satisfied with this? Would KU fans be satisifed with this? heck no why should we?

If you are okay with this you don't have OU BB pride or you are fine with a loser.

No. Why would he want to leave with a bad record? Is he scared? Does he like a desire to succeed and compete? I think this is a ridiculous statement.

He can still help his cause THIS year. We can beat Nebraska, TT and OSU. 7-9 in conference, maybe a favorable 1st round Big XII tournament game.

That's what I want to see from Capel. I want to see him coach right now. If he can't coach right now, I don't really want him next year. He can prove a lot of people wrong by doing something about it.

I've thought the same thing at times, just not sure if anybody wants to hire him at this point. If he turns it around, I think he leaves for the first opportunity that is close to the same level as OU.

I don't think he is particularly crazy about the support for the basketball program both from the fans and the admin. I would also guess if he was told he couldn't give an asst coach, who was trying to hire, a 2 year salary (1 year only), that would make him further question his desire to be here.

This is also a long way away from what he knows, which is the east coast.

Who knows...maybe I'm wrong though. Just an opinion.

So the fact that Capel has stated numerous times that he loves it here and considers Oklahoma a great job hasn't convinced you?

If that's the case, I'd be wasting my time trying to change your mind.

What else would you expect him to say, "I hate it here at Oklahoma. Nobody supports the program and the fans are all a bunch of redneck hicks".

I remember once in his first season an article was written and Jeff questioned why he didn't receive a standing ovation when he walked onto the court for home basketball games, like Coach K receives at Duke.

A lot of people complain about the way the admin handles basketball tickets and the marketing of the program, and not to mention the empty seats. Surely he notices this, too.

For the record, I'm not totally convinced he wants out but some things have happened in the past that gave me that impression. Again, maybe I'm wrong and probably am.

You're the guy who leaves in the 3rd quarter of a football game, then calls the postgame show to complain about our backup fullback after a 56-3 victory.

If he is upset with the lack of fan support he should look in the mirror. Any program, Duke, UNC, Kentucky, etc., would have empty seats with an awful product such as the one we have.

The diehards can enjoy watching this team grow and improve, but the fans needed to fill the arena want a top 25 type team if they're going to go consistently.

I don't disagree, but I wasn't talking as much about this season as I was in 07, 08, and even 09 when we had the POY who was pure entertainment.

OU has never been seen the LNC completely full for every game even during final 4 or conference championship seasons. Surely he knew this before he accepted the job but I can't say for sure.

I don't think there is any comparison with how bad Blake's team were as compared to the basketball team.

This is Capel's 5th season. I thought he did an OK job his first season when we lost all our recruits after Sampson left. To have a break even season that first year with really only Nate Carter inside was a huge accomplishment. Then we had the 2 seasons with Blake. You can't knock getting to a final 4..... We were pretty happy after Capel's first 3 years as compared to Blake.

Move on to year 4. It seemed we would be young last season, but had 3 Mickey D's on the floor. I saw it as a potentially fun year with some young guns. I have to admit I was excited to to see TMG in C&C. The guy was POY in Houston as a HS junior and was good. I refereed the Houston area and TMG and Tiny (AAU) were studs.

Things went south in a hurry last season. They had attitude problems, then had the cloud of the recruiting scandal hit and I'm not sure Capel (Joe C) had any choice but cut Taliaferro loose. Cline then jumped from a sinking ship.

At that point it was like sharks (opposing schools) smelling blood in open water. We have the ongoing NCAA investigation. The MCD triplets all left. The negative recruiting was rampant. Top recruits were scared to consider OU (we were close to getting Terrence Jones early). We couldn't even snare Carter's brother with a glaring need at PG. Top assistants and recruits weren't going to OU with all the uncertainty. School still use the rumors against the Sooners. It's had a snowball effect.

We signed a bunch of plan B players to even field a team this year. Did any on us think this was going to be a good season? Really? The turnaround will take 2-3 seasons.

Joe C is a patient AD. He doesn't make snap judgments. He couldn't care less what a bunch of us message board posters think. He let Jack Spates have several mediocre years with the wrestling team. I think he gives Capel at least one more year. As long as Jeff is the coach, I'll support him because my Sooner loyalty goes a lot deeper than 1 or 2 seasons.

I don't have to like it or agree with it. I just have to support it.

Here, Here.

This is amazingly credulous.

I find this incredibly hard to believe. I suppose it's too much to hope that you have a link or remember what publication it was?

I'm sure it was the Oklahoman and I'm 99% sure it was a Jenni Carlson article.
