our roster. im not sure how talented these big guys are but we have a lot and i think they will be scrappy and at least a couple should be decently talented. i would like to add the guy from unlv and if we can get a scoring guard we should do that. if not we should save the scholarships for next yr where we will def need some scorers to have a chance to be a legit team in 2012

As long as you are listing Grooms ahead of Blair and Newell ahead of Pledger (who scored 38 on the road in the Big 12 this year and has 2 years of starter's experience...), I will continue to believe you are totally insane. Can Grooms and Newell become starters? Maybe, but it's way too early to even think about it.

grooms better be better than blair. or he shouldn't have been brought in. and clark will probably need to log time at the #2 to get all the minutes he needs.

NO way Cam Clark is the 2. He cant handle the ball well enough. If someone presses us or denies grooms/blair the ball... You trust Cam bringing it up againist a 2... I dont...

No way Newell starts over Pledger. Grooms over Blair is a toss up right now... it's going to come down to who Coach K trusts the most. With that said, I think both will get plenty of playing time.

that won't take much preparation. i watched every game last year.

I'm noticing a trend with your posts.

If you're just now noticing, you haven't been paying close attention. I'm just thankful Coach LK's the one running the team and deciding how the playing time is determined.

I think Pledger and Newell will split a lot more time than they did last year.

As for stats, its hard to say. Pledger has won about 20 games in 2 years since he has been here, so I kinda throw the stats out and give everyone a fair shake.

Pledger will probably start, but its my hope that Newell progresses enough to split time with him.

That is obvious. You take Davis' minutes away from the 2/3 spots, and you add no new guards to the mix. Of course Newell will get more minutes. He'll have to.

me too!! some people seem to think that it is a good idea to keep on trying to compete in the big 12 with the mid-major talent that capel brought in. blair, pledger, thompson, washington, neal, ect. i'm not negative on OU basketball. i'm thrilled with the coaching change. kruger is a winner and he will get the program back to the kelvin era level pretty quick. mayby a couple years. and then mayby beyond. most of the players that capel left us with are simply not good enough to win more than they lose in the big 12. it is no more complicated than that. mayby capel should have gotten another year to shore up the mess alittle. but, he didn't. mayby i'm being too optimistic. but, i think that kruger is trying to bring in better players than the ones he has got. i'm just rooting for the possibility that he is doing just that.

You gotta like our starters.

Fitz should score around 13-15 a game.
Pledger if he's just a little better should score around 12-14 a game. He scored like 11 last year.
Osby should score in that neighborhood of 14 a game.
Clark should score around 10 at least.
Blair should get about 8 or 9 a game

That's a chance to score around 60-65 a game from the starters if they live up to their potential. We still basically have no bench scoring really. If we get an average of around 8-10 a game from our bench though that'll put this team at about 70-75 a game which is really good.

How do you figure Pledger has two years of starting experience? Pledger started in three games as a freshman and averaged 18.9 minutes per game. That is very respectable for a freshman but it is not a returning starter. WW, TMG and Tony Crocker were the starters. I am not trying to insult Pledger, he played a lot as a freshman and I think he will be a huge part of next year's team, likely a starter but neither he nor Fitzgerald were regular starters as freshman.

I agree. If the starters, and I think you've nailed the five who will be the starters, can put up averages like this, then OU should have a good chance to win more than lose next season. I'm also optimistic that OU will play better defense next season.

Osby Skill Set?

What is Osby's skill set? Is it possible to go big? Maybe the starting lineup could look like this:

Posts – Cassey Arent and Andrew Fitzgerald
Wings – Romero Osby and Cam Clark
Point – Sam Grooms

Bench/Guards – Carl Blair, Stephen Pledger, Calvin Newell
Bench/Forwards – C.J. Washington, Tyler Neal
Redshirting - Amath M’Baye

During his sophomore year at Miss. State, Osby shot .410 (16-for-39) from 3-point range. Wonder if he has decent handles for a big man?

Just wondering.

Although I think Grooms should eventually start at PG, I don't think your lineup has enough ballhandlers. Would be easy to trap/press. Also, defensively that group would likely have to play a zone defense.
