Is Capel blackballed by AAU coaches?

TMG, Tiny, and WW would have all quit after the first practice.

They wouldn't have committed to OU in the first place.

Capel didn't do his homework when recruiting these 3 malcontents. Doesn't take much effort to get to know the players and to tell if they are a fit for your program or not.

This...probably.

The statistics back this theory up. In fact, the statistics say he wouldn't have gotten this type of player in the first place. Not his kind of player.

Look at his last class, arguably his best class. Yes, they were studs, but now we know they were also hard workers.

KS was THE BEST at getting the MOST out of a kid...

Absolutely, and I know He would not have inked those kids. He was much better with below average talent. Question was, would they have played better defensively?

I agree, but there's no evidence to support that he's not being friendly to them.

It's all about who you believe. I tend to lean more towards a guy who gets paid well to do a job than some "hanger-on"/"handler"...

I am not remotely saying Capel does not do the things I am suggesting. I would have no basis to say that he does or doesn't other than my perception of his personality. He seems intelligent so I would assume he does do these things. I would also assume that it is easier said then done. The only perfect people I know are actually quite flawed and generally lack the ability to properly evaluate themselves. I know I fail to properly evaluate myself on a regular basis. (This is not to say I think I am below average in this area, it is just easy to have a poor perspective at times.)

They wouldn't have played for Kelvin if they didn't play defense. They would have sat on the bench until they decided to play defense.

KS didn't sacrifice defense just so a kid could play who was good offensively. He'd rather win the 4-2 with all 5 kids playing defense than win 100-98 with 4 or less playing defense.

I hear ya...

This. Let's not forget that Kelvin's practices were insanely physical which brought out the toughness and effort of his players. All three didn't have the effort or the mental toughness to play under Kelvin.

1. recruit the best, fastest athletes
2. work on defense and fastbreaks from day one (a la Huggie)
3. profit

Very few high profile McDonald's AA's have the mental toughness for Kelvin's style. His style is not easy to play (and by that, it is very hard work to play hard nosed in your face physical defense for 40 minutes)

The other thing about Kelvin's style that drove off McDAAs is that under that system, you have to pay your dues. Even if you're the best player on the team, you had to demonstrate respect for the senior leadership to have a chance of seeing the floor. The point being that the seniors who were leading would increase their effort, since everyone was looking to them. It's an interesting psychological game.

That's another reason I think AAU ends up being detrimental toward player development as a whole. By the time you're a high school senior, your AAU experience has confirmed whether or not you're a viable NBA prospect. If so, it doesn't matter if you pay your dues in college, because you'll be drafted even from a terrible team, if you show enough flash. Why would you buy into a team concept when you've been a free agent your whole life?

If true this is wrong on so many levels. What is Capel supposed to do, give OT a raise? Increase his credit line and cell phone minutes? Bring the wrath of the NCAA down upon us again when the next bad attitude kid with his hand out shows up hand in hand with OT and Jeffrey Hausinger? Wait, that's three hands.

AAU and one and done rules are destroying college basketball. Absolutely destroying it. That said, under the current broken system, right or wrong, Capel being ostracized by these people is only going to hurt our recruiting, and our team.

In my opinion the mistake was one recruiting Tiny and TMG and two thinking that WW could lead the two freshmen in the manner they needed to be led considering that team was WW's team (similar to Taylor and Blake the previous year). Consequently no chemistry and no leadership as Crocker was also of no help.

Unfortunately they did not have the same leadership skill set to set expected team effort and commitment from the incoming freshmen and make it happen. The net result was 3 individual stars running amok with no consideration for the team. Had Blake still been with the team he would not have allowed any of the three to get away with any of their s--t. They would have toed the line. WW was not that smart and could not control the others even if he had wanted to.

Capel is definetly blackballed i n the Dallas/Ft.worth area. The top AAU teams team texas, dallas mustangs, dfw elite he will not get a player from those teams.

How about the Texas Titans or Texas Assault? I'd like Randle, Matt Jones and Marcus Smart etc.

He wont get them.Capel has yet to take responsibilty from last year them 3boys was still 18yr old kids and Capel hung them out to dry like they destroyed that team well FYI he is the freaking coach. The dfw area did not like that he showed no loyality to them boys in the media.

So what should he have done with those 3 18 yr old boys???

Bingo. That's what I've been saying the past day or so. It's ultimately on Capel for the way the TMG, WW and Tiny stuff happened. A coach gets paid for several reasons. One being, to mold young men. Who's going to want a chance to find the success that TMG and Tiny have found? Let's be real...most of the kids these days have similar me first personalities.
