Is Capel blackballed by AAU coaches?

He wont get them.Capel has yet to take responsibilty from last year them 3boys was still 18yr old kids and Capel hung them out to dry like they destroyed that team well FYI he is the freaking coach. The dfw area did not like that he showed no loyality to them boys in the media.

He showed as much or more loyalty to them as they showed to their team.

See the post right about your's. THAT'S what I'm talking about. Chico is on here defending some kids that tried to (whether purposefully or not) destroy our program. Those AAU coaches are blaming Capel for what those kids did last year. Sheesh...

Bingo. That's what I've been saying the past day or so. It's ultimately on Capel for the way the TMG, WW and Tiny stuff happened. A coach gets paid for several reasons. One being, to mold young men. Who's going to want a chance to find the success that TMG and Tiny have found? Let's be real...most of the kids these days have similar me first personalities.

Ok, then I will ask you: what should he have done with the 3??

This is awful...THIS is why kids have the attitudes they have now days...it's someone else's fault.

It's amazing we don't have players shooting each other with the lack of discipline JC requires from his players...

Chico who do you think should replace Capel that would get the Dallas kids?

Well let me ask you: what was done to help the 3?

None of us were behind closed doors so we're just assuming what did or did not happen. From the outside looking in, Capel didn't seem to push them to change their behavior. How do you get an 18 year to have a philosophical change? Beats me, but however you do it, it wasn't done and kids/parents see that. He took 3 VERY talented guys and didn't help them in life or basketball one iota.

Capel didn't help them, but not because he didn't try. Capel didn't help them because they didn't want to be helped.

Naivety at its finest.

Did you not see Tiny's attitude change last year???

Unfortunately, NOTHING was going to fix TMG at that point in his life. I bet he'd tell you the same thing now.

Willie's in the league.

Who said anything about parents? I thought the thread was about AAU coaches...

really? For starters, Capel has taken blame for last year. Secondly, Being 18 years old is old enough to not make the decisions those kids made and he didn't hang them out to dry at all. he showed them plenty of loyalty...too much if you asked me.

Parents/DFW area/AAU coaches...it all goes hand in hand.

But there's no evidence the parents feel this way. I WILL say this. As a parent of a HS junior athlete, THIS attitude amongst MANY parents today simply ruins competitive youth sports.

I'd be interested to get Willie, Tiny and TMG's thoughts NOW.

Fair enough, but I echo what you said, and what OUHOOPS11 said: No one really knows what JC did or didn't do to help those kids. It is easy for one poster to come on board and say that the coach did nothing for the 3 of them, when the truth is he doesn't know what the coach did.

You say that it wasn't done. You know that bothers me, because in the line of work that I do, I get to work with countless kids of all ages. I have had kids on my caseload become victims of murder, murderers, drug dealers, users, etc.. One common theme is that most of them come from a homelife that promotes blaming others.

I have had mothers accuse the police of hating their kids when they arrested them for murder. I have seen every excuse used, except the kid didn't want any help. Unfortunately that happens..... Some kids refuse help, and if you continue to cater to them, they will destroy you and everything around you...

I don't have a clue how bad the guys were, or how much JC did, but I do know that blanket statements usually are based on opinion, and many times the full facts are not known...

The only parents/AAU coaches who truly believe this are selfish thugs in the same mold as Tiny Gallon and Tommy Mason-Griffin. Sorry, I don't want them on my team anyway, regardless of how talented they are.

The types of players who would believe that Capel hung these three out to dry are the same types of players who would accept handouts in violation of NCAA rules, do not care at all about OU or its tradition in basketball, and do not want anything to do with the academic requirements that are mandatory for student-athletes. They are in it for themselves, nothing more. They only ask "What can you do for me?", and never "What can I do for you, this team, and this university?"

Chico, great post. That's exactly what I thought was happening.

Of course it was a great post to you, because it fits what you have made known, you don't like Capel. It still adds no facts to the argument. Anyone can make a non supported blanket statement. Here's one:

Recruits parents hated Sampson because he never taught their kids to score. That nonsense was posted during the Sampson debates, and it had as much merit as statements made about Texas AAU coaches and parents.....

It's a 2 way street. The player has to be receptive to being helped. When you are 18 and aren't smart enough to realize you don't know it all, you tend to reject help that is offered if it requires you changing your behavior. Suspensions usually are a wakeup call but these guys were too far gone for suspensions to ge through to them.

I don't know exactly what happened last year , but I've never seen a coach lose a team like Capel did last year.

AAU is just a team and most times the parent or kid (if there is any) have ultimate say so, not the AAU coach.

I think you're missing my point (if I have one) and that's...when a parent sends a kid from, let's say California by way of Oak Hill Academy, to OU...Jeff Capel becomes that kid's father/mother. 18 year old boys (especially) are immature and a lot of times need guidance. You guys continue to blame the kids, I'll blame the guy that gets the hefty (unwarranted) paycheck.

Klegg, you've probably raised your kid the right way. You should know that every kid does not come from the same household. I don't remember or I never looked into what situations these three came from, but I'd bet low-income, maybe even fatherless (assumption) homes. Let's say you're a single mom and have a kid with borderline-to-bad behavior characteristics...would you send him to Capel?

For every kid like a Cade/Cam (good personalities), there's a Cousins/TMG.

This is one of those extremely intelligent "I've never seen a worse guard than Carl Blair" type comments.

I know TMG's parents are divorced and he never mentioned his mom when talking about going pro and buying a house for his mom.

Tiny's mom is the one who received the $3000 payment from Hausinger, and you never heard mention of Tiny's dad in any of the articles about this deal.

I'm not sure about WW, but I don't ever remember hearing about his dad.

Somebody earlier today referenced Ryan Broyles as an athlete who turned his life around, but Broyles parents are still married (from what I understand) so he always had a dad at home.
