Is Drew dumb enough to play zone in Norman

I noticed 1-3-1 and triangle-2, then man.

Yep. And we dominated all of them. Especially the 1-3-1...you can do that to a team that's doesn't shoot 50% ....from 3....on the season. I dunno what what he was thinking. Man was the best they looked against us but still wasn't that good.

He doesn't coach anything else so they can't run anything else effectively. Just like we can't magically switch to a zone and run it effectivly mid game.

Still unsure why people bag on Drew all the time. He's done a fantastic job at Baylor. Took a doormat program that was coming off the modern day death penalty and has turned them into a perennial top 25 NCAA tourney team that has made several deep tournament runs. Guy is a hell of a coach.

This right here. We are Baylor's worst matchup in the Big 12. We normally shoot too well from 3 to zone us. You can junk it up against us (box/1, Triangle/2), but you will leave at least one good perimeter scorer unaccounted for and you're much more susceptible to get killed on the boards when running one of these defenses.

Man-to-man is probably their best option against us, but unfortunately, their man defense really isn't that good.....because they don't play it very much. The only way Baylor hangs with us is if we go cold from the outside.

This. People seem to think that teams can just insert defenses during a game or the couple of days before a game in order to defend a team. We don't play much zone and I'm sure we don't practice much zone. So even if zone is the best defense against a team, that's only true if it's played well and we won't play it well. Baylor is a zone team but that's what makes them a bad matchup against us. They need to do what they do best, hoping that by doing it really well, it'll be good enough. There's no way man will work well against us because they play zone much better than they do man.

We can't go to zone against them just because they have several big guys. We should play man and if we don't play it well enough, we'll lose.

i know we are m/m...but it's more of a floating zone..or floating man...not sure what u would call it.

We switch about 90% of the time...on any movement. It's not just guards on top either...Spang gets stuck on guards up top a lot.

Works for us

I see it as more of a match up zone, where each player is responsible for guarding the man in their area. I think we're better in that defense than a straight man to man. Jordan gets caught guarding a guy much taller than him sometimes, but he's smart and quick enough to hold his own until a bigger teammate can make the switch again.

Yup...just couldn't get the name...lol.
