Is Frank Haith to MU really a bad hire?

The Big East was not the big basketball power it is now back in the late 90s. They only became fully committed to hoops when Miami, Va Tech and Boston College dumped them for the ACC.

Anyway, glad OU didn't hire Frank Haith. ha ha ha ha

Yes, OU did much better with Kruger.

MU almost hit a home-run with Painter, and I will say they settled with Haith, but I still think they win at least 22 games and make the NCAA Tournament in his first season. We will see how he recruits after that.

i'm convinced abd doesn't believe half the crap he posts. Hejust does it to get a rise out of people. I'm embarrased I didn't realize it sooner

He has been to the post-season more than any coach in the history of the school, and has more post-season wins than any coach in the history of the school. That tells you what a dump that program is.

He and Hamilton both had 5 post season trips at Miami. The big difference is that Haith has 4 NITs and 1 NCAA; Hamilton had 3 NCAA and 2 NITs. Hamilton had 3 NCAA wins; Haith had 1. The only think that Haith has on Hamilton is NIT wins: Haith 5-4, Hamilton 1-1

Considering the team that is potentially returning, winning 22 games with that roster is not something to brag about. Along with "post season victories" considering that all but one of those wins were in the NIT (which I find almost worthless....not completely if it can springboard the next year)

I think they will win more, but 22 is safer.

Which fact that I posted do you disagree with? Did I say something that just didn't happen or can't happen?

Are you saying he can't (that its literally impossible) make the NCAA Tournament in his first year there?

Are you saying that he wasnt a big time assistant out of Texas?

Are you saying that he isnt one of the top 2 coaches Miami has ever had?

Are you saying that Miami isnt a major dump basketball school?

I don't get what your beef is here.

Didn't Kim English announce that he was attempting to go pro? Safford is gone...Bowers, Ratliffe and Denmon should all return...they have zero commits right now...guys may transfer to Arkansas (probably not)...I'm not certain 22 wins is a given.

English is testing the waters, but he will be back. He has no chance of getting drafted.

PG: Phil Pressey (soph)
SG: Marcus Denmon (senior)
SF: Kim English (senior)
PF: Laurence Bowers (senior)
C: Ricaro Ratliffe (senior)

Bench:
Ricky Kreklow (soph)
Matt Pressey (senior)
Mike Dixon (junior)
Kadeem Green (RS Freshman)
Steve Moore (senior)

They are pretty loaded.

We have a century of evidence that Missouri is a mediocre program, their roster coming back next year is mediocre. LOL @ them being "loaded". Yes they are loaded with 3 stars.

They are what they are and nothing is changing.

which fact have you posted?:D Your posts are full of opinions.

You see everybody saying how this was a terrible hire and laughing at Mizzou. Perfect and predictable spot for you to decide to create a thread stating the opposite of what everyone else feels.

There's a lot of smoke about Phil Pressey possibly transferring to Arkansas

Miami is in the same category as Auburn, Nebraska, Oregon State, Ole Miss, etc in terms of being a terrible basketball school.

I won't disagree that its a crappy job. But being "in the same category" is not what you initially said... You initially said it was the biggest dump in the nation, when the extremity is what I am disagreeing on. I would argue there are worse jobs out there.

A lot of people on this forum and around the conference recognize that Doc Sadler at NU is a good basketball coach, yet his results dont indicate that. It's because he won nearly 30 games at UTEP and took the first BCS job that came his way. He made the same mistake Frank Haith did. He should have stayed with UTEP, continued to win, and taken a better job than Nebraska.

I see your point, but comparing Sadler and Haith is an incongruous one, simply because Sadler has had success as a D1 coach (regardless if it wasn't at a BCS school). Should Sadler have been hired at Missouri, you could at least find some justification simply because he succeeded at UTEP. Haith has yet to succeed as a head coach.

Anyone think he won't do that in his first year?

I won't say that (but I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't reach those numbers), but the point still remains that there were more qualified coaches out there.

if mu doesn't win in haith's first year, the fans will view him in about the same way as ou fans viewed capel after two horrible year. for that reason alone, it was a bad hire.

Who cares about 3 stars... Its pretty well known that Denmon, Ratliffe, Pressey (a 4-star), and English are good players.

He was a freshman and Anderson is like his uncle, wouldnt surprise me.

Because there is more to it than that. On the surface it looks like a "terrible" hire, but like most things, there is more to the story. The story being that Miami is a mega dump program.

They are pretty loaded.

Definitely a decent-to-good lineup. Two (among the many) concerns as far as 22 wins...

1. Schedule. The Big 12(10) seems to be improving by the day. OU, as we know, just hired a really good coach and should improve. Same for Tech. Iowa State is going to be a stout and should resemble a hard-nosed Big Ten team. Kansas is Kansas. Kansas State, some think will fall off, I don't. Frank has won 21 or more games in all four of his seasons. McGruder and Co. will compete. A&M should be a tourney team. Texas will be a tourney team. Oklahoma State should maintain NIT or higher status. Baylor, well, who knows if Drew can get them to play hard, but they'll have some talent. My point is that the players coming back for Mizzou are the same guys that went 8-8 in what I think was a depleted Big 12 compared to what next year may bring (more parity). Plus that was with Anderson who, in most people's opinion and according to their bank accounts, is the better coach.

2. Style of play. These players were recruited to play in Anderson's full-court, up-tempo offense. Now I'm not 100% certain on what Haith runs, but from what I've seen watching a couple Miami games, it seemed like more of a half-court, guard isolation offense. Can the current players adapt?

The story being that Miami is a mega dump program.

I see. Since Haith has as many NCAA wins at Miami as Hillbilly Ford has at OSU will you concede that either OSU is a mega dump program or Hillbilly Ford is a mega dump coach?

7 and 3 are not the same numbers.

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Two Missouri starters have declared for the NBA draft on the same day the school is expected to approve a contract to hire Miami's Frank Haith as its new men's basketball coach.

Juniors Kim English and Laurence Bowers announced Monday that they plan to pursue pro careers but have not hired agents. That means they can return to school if their NBA plans don't work out.

The announcement comes as Missouri curators prepare to meet Monday night in a closed meeting. A person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press late Sunday that Haith is headed to Columbia after seven seasons in south Florida.
