On Wednesday afternoon, Edmond Santa Fe basketball star Josh Richardson officially put the stress of the recruiting process behind him when he signed a letter of intent to play for Tennessee.
“It's a big relief,” Richardson said. “I don't have to worry about it anymore. No more calling coaches every day and getting calls and talking on the phone all the time.
“I'm just ready to go to work.”
Richardson, a first-team selection on The Oklahoman's Super 5 the last two seasons, averaged 16.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists as a senior with the Wolves.
A 6-foot-5 combo guard and strong defender, Richardson said his relationship with new coach Cuonzo Martin was a major factor in his decision, but he enjoyed his visit to the campus last weekend as well.
“I like the city,” he said. “It felt like a small town, but Knoxville's a big town. All the fans were nice.”
He also had offers from TCU, Georgia Tech and Penn State.
