Lets say the impossible happens and by the biggest of miracles OU wins the Big XII Tourney. Those of you that really want Capel gone, would you still on Sunday when we get selected to go to the dance? Lets avoid the it will never happen thing b/c I know that I just want some honest answers. Plus, its always fun to dream. :)

Yes I want him gone. Lightning in a bottle, is just that lightning in a bottle. The body of work is 5 years, not 4 games.

That is a very tough question...honestly I'd probably have to let you know how I feel if the miracle does happen. BTW it's not completely impossible...a terrible Georgia team won the SEC tourney 3 or 4 years ago and saved their coach's job for another year...of course then they did terrible again the next year and he got fired then.

I'm certainly not saying we're going to make a run, but similar things have happened in the past.

Win the tournament? You must be drinking this morning. It'll be a miracle if we get out of the first round.

1. No one said we will win the whole thing.
2. You do you realize that we beat Baylor once this year. So, how would it be a miracle for us to win?

I think he stays now anyway...so this would just be some good momentum going into next year...

If my aunt had balls she would be my uncle. :ez-laugh:

why don't you just say what he has done in the last 2 years...b/c your not taking in 5 years.

1st year...left with no one...did a good job coaching that team. 2nd year went to the 2nd round and the 3rd year to the elite 8. Last year was a bad coaching year and this year was pretty good b/c he got his team to play hard every game.

Maybe he's not the greatest recruiter...and maybe you should complain about that b/c his body of work overall isn't bad.

But you'll probably get your wish and we will get a new coach and then the 1st bad season he has you can cry some more and want him fired and then the next coach will come in and if he has a bad season you will want him fired too...and the cycle will continue.

If I remember correctly, htown, didn't you complain about Sampson, too?

Maybe I have you confused with another poster with a similar name...if so, I'm sorry.

so this year we were pretty good cause we played hard every game!?!?!

This year was good because Capel got the team to play hard? I wish I got paid just for effort and not results. Jeff isn't winning, that is why he should be fired.

This is really the bottom line. Coaching tenure on the D1 level is based on performance and in every facet of Jeff's job, he has failed but the biggest failure is his lack of results on the court.

To put it bluntly, he took over the 2nd best program in the conference and turned it into the 10th best program at this point (only ISU and Tech are behind us).

He went a different route on recruiting...it was a rebuilding season...before the season started there was no chance that we were going to be good...not with capel coaching not with coach K not with Self.

I love firing a coach after a rebuilding season...it makes sense.

Nobody wants to admit that Willie Warren got hurt last season. The book on Capel should be...if his star player gets hurt and misses games...his team struggles.

Your support for Jeff Capel is border-line delusional.

1st we were 3rd(Tex and KU ahead of us). 2nd, we are still 3rd...we just finished 10th in the conference. I don't see aTm, Mizzou, KSU, TT, ISU, etc... bringing in McDAA talent like Capel has the past few years with Griffin, Warren, Gallon, and TMG. Other than Bay, Tex and KU....Cameron Clark was the highest rated player out of high school last year that entered the big 12. I don't think we've dropped that much or even dropped at all.

Its just not bandwagon support like yours. I can see that he can recruit and he can coach and I'm not jumping ship b/c he struggled to win w/o Warren and he struggled to win on a rebuilding year.

2. You do you realize that we beat Baylor once this year. So, how would it be a miracle for us to win?

Because Baylor will have the two best players on the court in Lace Dunn and Perry Jones. Additionally, you can make arguments that Quincy Acie and Anthony Jones are beter in the post than everyone on OU's roster with the possible exception of Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald is a better scorer but I don't think he is better at rebounding, at defense or on the break. I would say they are both better on the break, better defenders and better rebounders than Fitzgerald. With that said, it needs to be acknowledged they have more help rebounding and the best defender is probably blocking out Perry Jones rather than them while the best defender is probably blocking out Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald actually might improve noticeably on the boards with a little help inside. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt until I am proven wrong.

How many big Monday appearances did we have this year? How many CBS appearances did we have?

I live in Kansas City, and this is the first season the local radio stations never even talked about OU even when the local schools were playing us. The game wasn't worth discussing because everybody knew who was going to win before it ever started.

Used to be, the gurus of the local teams (KU, KSU, and Mizzou) would be on as guests when they were about to play OU and it was a major topic of discussion because the game had conference implications and in some cases national implications. Now when one of the teams is to play OU we get one line discussions of the game like "that's a game KU/KSU/Mizzou will win easily". Greg Gurley, the resident KU homer, called us "lowly Oklahoma" a few weeks back. It's sad, but it's true.

PS -- we were the 2nd winningest program in the Big 12 when Capel took over. We have a winning record in every series but KU in the conference and still do, but the numbers are dwindling quick.

Texas was not better than OU when Sampson left. Sampson was consistently in the Top 3 of the conference while the top 4 programs were KU (clearly no. 1), OU, OSU and Texas. I believe Sampson was 17-8 against Texas. I am not sure about the head to head between Sampson and Barnes.

Texas wasn't as good during the sampson era as they are now...False. They had their final 4 year during that time. Lets make sure that we don't Blame Capel for them being good. They get 1st picks of the Texas players and the leftovers as well.
