Kansas begs Nebraska not to leave the Big 12

I posted the article on the OUInsider football board and this response is solid gold:

I'm sure the impact on women's basketball will be a real key in this

That whole first paragraph was, well it was weird. Very weird.

Cheno to be fair I think the reason you're seeing football discussed quite a bit here is quite frankly football is the only sport that matters in this whole mess. Football is the cash cow, and everything else may as well be a club sport.

Yeah, you're probably right. I've been looking at everything from a basketball fan standpoint.

I don't think that is the case. Though, you have to think that with all the bad pub over the last 6 months that Coach Capel's image among the casual Sooner fan has taken a hit.

There are some folks that like to try and force the issue that women's basketball is somehow the second most popular sport among OU fans. All you need to do is look at the attendance (butts in the seats and tickets sold) and you will find your answer (and that is with the tickets prices for the women's games being dirt cheap).

The real order of popularity goes something like this:

1. Football
2. Spring practice/spring game
3. Men's hoops
4. Women's hoops

I give Coach Coale a lot of credit though. She has certainly made OU one of the top women's basketball fanbases in the country. And she did it by starting from ground zero.

My fear is that the Thunder will slide in there at #3 for the casual OU fan and bump both the college basketball teams down. It may have already happened.

Kinda has for me....well, no it hasn't. Still OU hoops at 1b. on your list, maybe even 1a. Being an OU FB fan is easy, being an OUMBB takes a certain integrity :)

And honestly when I think from a basketball fan standpoint that is what I think would suck the most, losing the traditional Big 8 matchups. And most importantly, what will this mean for Studio 66???

Oh crap...cancel the whole thing immediately!

Good Lord in heaven you got that right. Being an OU basketball fan (and trying to get others to support the team) is not easy. haha

Oh no. I never thought about the potential impact on Studio 66. Hopefully Doug Bell, Reid Gettys and co. land on their feat in the new Pac-16 network.

We can all still show up at Doug Bell's moms garage and talk about the good old days. :)

Last time I did that she hit on me. Very uncomfortable.

You kidding me?! She can hit on me all day long while we watch tapes (vhs) of past Nebraska vs Texas Tech games. She is a GILF in my book.

ABD, I'm telling Big Time you hacked his account.

Gotta admit it will be nice not having to listen to you guys rag me about KU's advantage in the Big 12 tourney in Kansas City. I'll get to hear all about the Pac-16 conference tourney in Los Angeles every year. :clap
How many of you would make that trip?

Someone really should ask Mark for his take on the possible conference shake-downs:

Honestly that would suck mega @$$ if all of the conference championships/tournaments were played in L.A. or all points west. If we can go all the way out here then they can come all the way "in" here once in awhile.

Oh they will. No way that Texas will allow that to happen every year. We would still have some championships on this side of the country (Jerry World anyone?).

And I agree with campbest from the other thread. Las Vegas.

You guys are crazy if you think they are going to continue to have it in LA. It doesn't have great attendance now anyway, when you compare it to other high major tournaments.

Outbid the MWC, force them somewhere else...the WCC would stay at the Orleans (perfect venue for them).

Las Vegas...I can feel it.

fatty (if you are lurking),

For the record, I would love to bring your purpleness with OU wherever we go. If I could make that happen, then you could count on playing a pivitol conference game in Eugene on a friday night at 9 pm cst. Trust me. I would also make sure little brother didn't get to join us. That would be a riot, huh!!! *snicker snicker*

You're my boy, fatso.
