Kansas begs Nebraska not to leave the Big 12

Interesting poll...

Who thinks the Big 12 still has a chance?

Honestly that would suck mega @$$ if all of the conference championships/tournaments were played in L.A. or all points west. If we can go all the way out here then they can come all the way "in" here once in awhile.

I'm sure in football they would come to Jerry World. I can't see basketball coming this way. Dallas has already shown how bad that is.

What's your guys feelings about the on the court play? Excited about playing in the Pac-16? Think OU has a better/worse chance of winning championships? Is Fox Sports going to be the major broadcaster of games..what are you hearing?

At least kansas will get to continue playing rivalry games in the octagon of doom.

That is true. At least KSU has been holding up their end of the rivalry. If I'm Mizzou fan I want as far away from KU as possible as well. They've become the butt of too many jokes in that rivalry.
And to be quite honest, I'm upset about the Pac-10 situation. I don't want Texas and Oklahoma schools to break up the Big 12. If they stay intact and Mizzou leaves to go to the Big 10 I really honestly don't think anyone would care. It's Mizzou.

That's kind of hard to say/know right now, given the fact that the Pac-10 was about as bad as it has ever been last year. But you know that UCLA will more often than not be UCLA, and you've got to figure that the following programs will be VERY competitive: Washington, Arizona, Stanford, Cal. Also USC and Oregon certainly have the potential if they can just get things straightened out. That will likely take longer for USC than it will Oregon.

I tend to agree. To me it potentially would be much tougher on the court from top to bottom. I'm guessing in other sports like baseball, softball, etc it would be much tougher for OU's teams as well. Even to a certain extent football with USC to contend with. That would be exciting though..USC/OU on the gridiron. My main concern is the TV. Jeez, I hate them latenight games and Fox Sports. It sucks. Marques Johnson is the worse.

If this things shake down like they say it could then the Pac-16 baseball conference could be an absolute nightmare.

And you're right, Fox Sports is absolutely terrible. That is what I've always hated about the Big 12, our pathetic television contract. It wasn't that big of a factor in basketball but in football I just loved watching some of our games on Fox Sports. A move to the Pac-10 could mean even MORE Fox Sports.

Ironic coming from the program no one wants.

I thought you were a traditionalist? It seems that Mizzou leaving would be a big deal, considering they were part of the Big 8 (and actually, they were part of the original MO Valley AA from the early 1900s which eventually morphed into the Big 8).

Point being, conference realignments happen. The final nail already happened in 1996. This reality makes holding on to ideas of "tradition" in conferences a moving target at best and historically unaware at worst. The tradition of school rivalries will always exist regarless of conference configurations--there are multiple empirical examples. But holding on to ideas of conference tradition is not terribly realistic now and hasn't been for years and years.

The one thing I love about Big 12 hoops is all the ESPN coverage and love.
ESPN clearly is the world wide leader in sports and the Big 12 is all over it.
The Pac-10 has about zero presence on ESPN if memory serves correct. Obviously not conference games but I don't even recall many good non-conference UCLA vs Kentucky or whoever type games.

Ironic coming from the program no one wants.
Does Mizzou have an offer? I've heard zero talk about Mizzou to the Pac-10.
Big 10 focus is on Nebraska and Notre Dame first. I wouldn't crow too much.
People don't want Mizzou..they want St. Louis and KC media markets. I'll be the first to admit the state of Kansas isn't a huge media market. Not much we can do about that.

I am. I just hate Mizzou. And one team leaving wouldn't be the end of the world. The Big 12 dissolving would be a sad day. That's just my opinion. Obviously most here don't agree and want to be in the Pac whatever.

I think several years down the road if this Pac 10 thing happens people are going to get some buyer's remorse. From conference tourneys/championship games being held on the West Coast to later evening kickoff/tip times to road games being held thousands of miles away, it could get old fast. Would traveling to L.A. make a nicer week long vacation than traveling to Lawrence? Absolutely. Would traveling to L.A. just to attend a college sports event be nicer than traveling to Lawrence? Absolutely not. If you're just going for the game then why would you want to shell out all of that extra cash? In 2004 I attended every single OU football game, home and away. Would I be able to afford to do that if we played in the Pac 10? Hell no.

Exactly. It would suck for the fan. Just like KU in the Mountain West or Conf USA would suck for the KU fan. I go to about 75% of the Big 12 tourneys here recently. That would end (unless it was in KC every year but I doubt the other conferences would do that). I'm guessing the same would happen with most of the OU fans here. OU has trouble getting a big turnout anywhere outside of OKC for the tourney...what's it going to be like in LA?
Sure the extra money for the schools athletic departments is nice but what's that do to the fans and the tradition? Why not just wait out the current TV contract and in the meantime be working on a "Big 12 network". More than likely it will take a few years for all this to go down anyways. I just think there is more a win-win situation for most of the Big 12 schools that benefits the fans and schools by sticking together. That's my hope anyways.

Why would there be talk about Mizzou to the Pac 10? There hasn't been any talk of Nebraska to the Pac 10, either. There's a reason for that. I also haven't seen any talk of kansas to the Pac 10. There's a reason for that, too...

Regardless of what you've read from journalists who are running around publishing rumors, MU is on the Big 10's list just as much as Nebraska. Notre Dame is on another level, but they're also not going to join unless they have to, so it doesn't matter what the Big 10 thinks of them.

Why does anyone credit the Denver market to Colorado? Have you seen the ratings for Colorado games in Denver? Denver is a pro town. End of story. Adding Colorado will not bring in the Denver market.

That's a point that occurs to me frequently during these discussions, so I'm glad to see you make it.

I'm willing to bet Mizzou doesn't get all that many viewers in St. Louis and KC, either (though I have no evidence to support my guess), and I can guarantee you Rutgers (which the Big Ten is said to be interested in, if ND doesn't work out) is not a big TV draw in the Tri-State area around NYC.

You're looking at max two distant road games per year in the regular season, one in Arizona and the other somewhere else. Obviously, I bet they rotate the Championship game inbetween Dallas and somewhere else.

Just want to reiterate....men's basketball conference tourney in Las Vegas. Yes it's real.
