Kris Martin - Commit

He's had 2 pretty good games against us, '15 (15 points) and '16 (19).

Also had 16 points, 3-7 from 3, when ORU almost beat Michigan St. in East Lansing last year. He's played in a small conference, but played against some good competition as well, and he's usually played well.

I am taking a wait see approach on Martin. Has anyone asked why he left ORU in the first place?

His form reminds me of Buddy! This kid would be huge if he can play two seasons for us.

Maybe because Scott Sutton got canned at the end of Martin's sophomore season. Just speculation on my part.

That would be my guess but also speculation. I like that the kid was coached by Sutton for two years. The Suttons all know how to coach. The aggies were improved on the court by the FBI scandal. Now it will hurt them on the recruiting trail.

I live close to ORU and have seen the kid play several times. Never understood how ORU got him, he is a good player. Unless he has graduated, I don't understand how he could play this year. Don't know NCAA waiver rules so maybe one applies to his situation.

Tough crowd on here sometimes, but I think you guys are going to be surprised how good he is and will like him after you see him play. Man, I hope he can play next year.

Not sure about Sean, but agree with V, Scott and Eddie can really coach. JMO

I don't remember him specifically from playing against OU twice, but if he went for 15 and 19 in those 2 games as a freshman and as a sophomore, then I'd say he might be pretty good.

Nope. He was gone before Sutton was fired.. Saw an article in Tulsa World with quotes from Sutton

Seems like he's going to help a lot. Usually not a tough crowd but we usually see a lot more posters when things aren't going well because they like to b!tch.

I lurk here a lot, but don't often post, unless something big is going on. Same goes for other boards that I frequent. I don't say much unless I want to actively be part of the discussion, like right now. I'm sure there are many others that do the same.

Full release just means there are no restrictions on which school he can transfer to, doesn't apply to sitting out a year.

It's all we needed to know. This plus a guard with height who shoots well from the perimeter. Christmas either came late or early but he looks like an admirable replacement for McGusty.

I read an article about him that quoted him saying something about ORU just not being the right fit, how he never felt at home or something like that. It really could mean anything.

If you are familiar with ORU, you could probably understand that it isn't for everyone, although it USED to be much more liberal for male students than for female students. I knew several former ORU students years ago and used to hear stories.

Sorry I'm asleep at the wheel today --- here's our article on his transfer.

Martin spent last season sitting out per NCAA transfer rules at Colorado State, but received a full release after the resignation of CSU coach Larry Eustachy.

There was no official word on Martin's eligibility status as of Tuesday night.

Before that, Martin appeared in 59 games as an off-guard at ORU. He averaged 13.2 points in his sophomore season. Listed a 6-foot-5, Martin shot 40.6 percent from 3 over two years.

“After visiting with Kris we mutually agreed that the best thing for him was to continue his career elsewhere,” former ORU coach Scott Sutton said in a release at the time. “We wish him the best of luck as he continues to work toward his degree, and hope he finds a school where he can be successful on and off the court.”

Kris Martin - Question

Seems to be reports that Martin will have to sit out another year, and reports stating he’s good to go for 2018. Does anyone know or is it still left to be determined?

If the point guard commits that would be 4 commits for 2018. Will that close out recruiting for 2018?

Re: Kris Martin - Question

Mods, please append the Kris Martin thread with this query. Thanks!

Re: Kris Martin - Question

He’s not a Sooner. Super weird deal.
