Kruger report card

Good post! Many other things with Capel other than basketball. Very, very low integrity.

I don't know of anything that would suggest he had low integrity other than his assistant paying Tiny's tuition. That is not a positive for Capel but I wouldn't say it means he has low integrity.

I say this as one of his most vocal critics.

Yep, there is another group of 3 brothers who went to 3 different schools. Thanks.

Their tenures at those schools really didn't overlap. Maybe 1 year or so for 2/3 at one time? Same situation for the Curry brothers.

Brothers don't go to the same school just because. They go to the same school to PLAY TOGETHER. That happens a lot.. Why do you think twins always go to the same school? Because there is no separation in their collegiate careers. They get to play together a lot.

Capel was the benefactor of Blake being from Oklahoma and Taylor only being two years ahead of him in school. If one of those isn't true, then I don't think Capel lands Taylor.

When Capel got his own players, and didn't have NBA All Star, we were really really bad. As Kruger filed out the Capel-era players, we got a lot better. LK gets an A++.

And that is the first AND last thing I will ever say about Capel. I'm so tired of reading about Capel on this board. I'm not even sure why I am contributing to this conversation.

None of the brother examples have anything to do with Blake and Taylor Griffin. It is their personal relationship that matters. Blake wanted to play with Taylor. Capel deserves some credit for Blake signing but his supporters also need to be realistic. It most likely doesn't happen if Taylor is not at OU when Capel got the job. Furthermore, regardless of credit, explain his pathetic conference winning percentage without one of the best basketball players in the history of the game.

Agreed...and the Capel haters have to admit that Capel helped develop Blake, he names his college coach as one of the most influential people in his life. It cuts both ways.

The morris twins went to Kansas togther, the lopez twins went to Stanford together. Some people, like Blake, want to play with their brother, some don't. I am only going off what Blake said himself about wanting to play with Taylor.

And Brandon Rush went to KU. The Beakers had a fit when Roy was recruiting JaRon because he sat behind the Chickenhawk bench one night with a large pizza in his hand looking as uninterested as any human being alive on Earth.

Ben Hansbrough first went to Mississippi State and then transferred to Notre Dame.

Taylor being at OU definitely played a role in Blake attending OU. Has anyone said otherwise? But, Capel still had to recruit Blake. It should also be pointed out that Taylor told Blake that he believed in Capel and the direction of the program. Capel obviously played a role in building that belief/trust for Taylor. The posters that continue to say that Blake was "inherited" and that Capel played zero role in getting Blake to campus and helping him develop are the ridiculous ones IMO.

And with that, I'm out of this thread.

Andrew Wiggins went to ku. Brother at Wichita state.
Erik Murphy went to Florida and Alex Murphy went to duke
James Woodard is at Tulsa while Jordan is at ou

Blake was being recruited by everyone. Taylor was not. Capel had to beat out teams like duke for Blake.

Shouldn't we change the title of this thread to "Brothers?"

That is inadvertently my fault. All I was trying to do was get both sides to bend a little. Needless to say, it was an epic fail on my part :facepalm

Your use of "clown post" is beyond overused and now bordering on pathetic.

And saying Capel inherited the Wooden winner is laughably wrong.

So if Taylor Griffin ended up at OSU are you going to try to convince me Blake still plays for Cspel? Surely you are smarter than that? well...maybe not.

And he wasn't inherited as he wasn't on the roster when Capel became the coach. To say he was inherited is ridiculous.

Four sets of brothers pop into my mind that recently played college hoops (there are likely others but none instantly came to mind).

Grant brothers- 3 sons of Harvey and they played at 3 different schools
Griffin brothers- both played at OU
Curry brothers- 2 different schools
Plumlee brothers- all 3 played at Duke

Evidence that brothers don't necessarily follow each other and that there is no guarantee if you snag one brother you will get the next.

Harvey and Horace Grant both went to Clemson then Harvey left after one year to play juco.
William and Wayman Tisdale both went to OU. In fact, Billy probably doesn't land Wayman if he hadn't signed William.
All 3 Selmon brothers.
Tabor twins.
Ryan and Damon Minor both went to OU because OU offered Damon a baseball scholarship. Eddie Sutton was mad at Gary Ward for not offering Damon. Nancy Minor is a friend of mine.
Shepard's: Woody, Darrell and Derrick all played at OU.
Paris twins.
Tinker Owens and Steve Owens.
The Williams brothers: Dr Death and his older brother.
Lashar brothers
Jon and Anthony Phillips
Trevor and Connor Knight

I will come up with more but these are off the top of my head.

Your list is funny. A lot of your guys don't even play. Is Connor knight even on scholarship?

I seldom comment about Capel but will do so now. Take this with a grain of salt because it's just my opinion. I think he was a decent recruiter. He even knew some basketball. He didn't have a good backup plan for recruiting misses.

His biggest issue was he couldn't play the disciplinarian role. He was a buddy to the players. It's like being a parent and always trying to be their friend. Sometimes you have to be the bad guy and make some tough decisions. You can't always please them and you need to set some boundaries. He had some bad apples on those last teams and he needed to kick some a$$. The inmates were running the asylum. He couldn't/didn't take charge and the team spiraled out of control.

JMHO.

Boca, Calvin Newell appeared to be a player with a huge upside at OU, but he didn't do much after he transferred to UCF. He averaged 10.1 ppg as a junior and 11.1 his senior season. The best season he had from three was 31% as a junior. He shot 27% his senior season. Calvin was a combo guard. But assuming you are comparing him to Woodard, Jordan shot 37% last year. He's averaging 21% this season. Nothing about that makes me wish we had Newell. As I said, Newell showed a lot of promise. I'm just not sure I would take him at the point guard position over Woodard. We didn't see him play that position at OU enough for me to make that call.

Pledger vs Cousins is a no contest for me. The easy choice is Cousins. I was a big Bird fan back in the day. But, Isaiah is a much better defender, more athletic, and he can create his own shots and score in far more ways than Steven ever could. Do I need to bring up three point shooting? Pledger was a streaky shooter at best. The only season he was even close to Cousins current average of 44% was his junior year when he averaged 41.6%. Cousins has averaged better than 40% the last two seasons. Pledger had one season when he averaged 40% or better.

To be honest, I never thought we'd miss Cam Clark as much as we have this season. I knew he was a good player. I just didn't realize how much he brought to the team last year. Having said that, though, would you really trade Buddy Hield for him? I know I wouldn't.

Spangler over Fitz is another no contest pick from my perspective. The only thing I might give Drew the edge on is shooting short range jumpers, and even that's iffy for me. Ryan just brings so much more to the floor with his athleticism, rebounding and hustle than Fitz ever did. That's not meant as a knock on Drew, he just wasn't blessed with quick feet and even decent hops. His defense was also suspect for the same reasons.

That brings us to Osby and Thomas. The jury is still out to some extent on TaShawn for me. But if I had to choose between the two as of now, I would pick Romero. I hope I won't be able to say that at seasons end.

I would love to see the scouting report on Cousins, Pledger was game planned for...stop Pledger and you beat the sooners, I doubt if Cousins receives that type of attention...Pleder faced, box & 1, face guarding, triangle and 2's...lets not forget he was at the top of every teams game plan his jr year and was the returning leading scorer in the Big12 when Lon changed the offence his senior year...that has never been done at any level

I pretty much agree with this except I would add he didn't seem to have an identity or system on offense or defense. What exactly was OU doing when Capel was the coach? With Kruger you can clearly see his offense and defense.

not sure about Connor but if not he's proof the tie that binds brothers is sometimes stronger than anything else. He had chances to play at smaller colleges for free but chose to walk-on to play with his brother.

Most of the other examples didn't play basketball except the Paris twins, who played for the women's team, and Minor. The rest were all brothers that chose to attend OU to play a sport together. Kind of surprised you could be an OU fan or alum but didn't recognize any of them? Some of them are the greatest names to play at OU ever.

another example is Mark and Dave Schultz. Surely you know who they are right?
