While everyone is waiting on the Boom Boom, why did Waters get suspended or leave Norman North?

Took some pictures with guns and joked about school shootings on social media

The reports I've read were that he was going to be suspended for a year. I'm not sure how that punishment fits the crime, unless of course there's much more information behind the scenes. Norman is as reactionary a community as there is within our great state, so you have to know your surroundings when it comes to social media.

BTW - are there two uglier words in our world than social media? Yuck. Just couple them together and my skin starts to crawl.

In other news, his Dad was working on reclassifying Trey and sending him to a prep school up north for another year of seasoning in hopes of better D-1 offers. Brewster, I think. Now that's he's at Sunrise, do you think he'll still re-classify? Or will he remain in 2016?

Lindy Jr. is the dad. Trey is Lindy III. Lindy Jr. was pushing for Lindy III to reclassify and move to a prep school for 2017 before all this crap blew in.

We are literally to the point of year suspension over jokes and pictures?

I am all for explaining to a young person that certain things are not funny or acceptable but being suspended for a year is a severe punishment in my opinion.

This is exactly why I assumed there had to be much more behind the scenes when the punishment was announced. How can you kick a kid out of school for a crime that was never committed or even attempted?

But, that's Norman for you.

Try making a bomb joke on an airplane?

Exactly. A student can't make jokes about school shootings, especially when his school had recent violent threats reported. Not to mention the timing being close to the Roseburg shooting.

School shootings are something you DO NOT JOKE ABOUT.

Deserves a one year suspension for sheer stupidity.

I got this second hand from an administrator. A few weeks back they had a "shooter" scare of some sort at NN. Apparently after that died down, he made a video that appeared on Facebook/Twitter or one of those social media things holding a gun and saying, "who's gonna be the shooter now", or something of that nature. Apparently given the choice of suspension for the remainder of the year or transfer. Now don't go bet a million bucks on this, again, it was second hand and sketchy.

This was taken from another thread, but this is the story I heard as well. I still think a year is too steep, but talk about dumb. Goodness.

My question still stands: his Dad was going to reclassify him into 2017 and off to Brewster Prep at the end of this season, so will Lindy now be a junior? Or will he be a senior this year at Sunrise/Sunshine/bball factory?

There was more to the story. his "disturbing pictures" were posted at about the same time the school was investigating active shooter threats.

My boy missed 2 days of classes, because of 2 back to back active shooter threats, I don't think this stuff is any different from the bomb threats and metal detectors when I went through high school. I heard of the incident but didn't realize it was from a student that is a highly recruited basketball player. But if it takes suspending one, and high profile at that, bring it on!
I'd much rather this incident get the message across, over an actual incident or the preventative measures like metal detectors and vehicle search upon entering school grounds.

I just read a report that he reclassified into the '16 class... Who knows...?

I was curious if he would do that... Thanks for sharing.

Indeed 2016
