Lon Kruger at OU

So far he's done an average job. His first season we probably were a little worse than we would have been under Capel. Last year about the same as we would have been. His coaching has been no better but he might be assembling a more consistent roster. We"ll know that in the next couple years. No tournament wins so he can't be considered good yet, especially with what we're forking out to him.

Where do you come up with this stuff? Please explain your reasoning.

I'm happy with him...especially if we start playing some nasty defensive ball.

He needs to be a stop gap for bringing Kelvin back in...

That sums it up for me as well. If Cam Clark turns out to be the team's best player this year, that will be three years in a row which the best player was recruited by a former coach. Not that it's a no-no, but it does make me wonder about the recruiting aspect of his tenure so far. By Year 3 of Billy and Kelvin's tenure, the top player was someone they brought in (Year 2 for Billy). I'd like to see if Coach Kruger can start bringing in some impact players.

The one thing I would note is that M'Baye probably would have been the best player this year. So in some respects this isn't a totally fair statement.

Honestly, I would expect the best player to be a senior most of the time and Kruger didn't get much of a chance to put together a recruiting class his first year. I would also like to see Kruger bring in a marquee player. I think he has already brought in some impact players. Grooms, M'Baye, Heild, Hornbeak, and Cousins have already made an impact. I suspect Bennett, Spangler, Woodard and Booker will make an impact.

He's been pretty much what I expected him to be. And the results he's gotten, have been pretty close to what I think he should have gotten.

Well, we will know more this year and going forward. Last year he had a ton of seniors, which usually translates to some form of success.

He's got all his players now.

Overall, I would say he has done a decent job with the talent available. Recruiting doesn't appear to be very good, but we will see how some of these guys pan out.

I know he hasnt landed a 5 star... the soph class is really good. last year was woodard and booker.
this year could be McNease, Lattin, Cunningham, Burford (33% shot), and a real good transfer...

That being said, only McNease is on board at this time...

Kruger has exceeded my expectations. The last couple years under capel were so miserable

Pretty simple really. Capel had everybody coming back a year older and had Osby replacing Davis. But we changed coaches, Newell left, Clark took a huge step backwards, Goff was dropped and Arent was added, we put in all new systems and made zero progress. Without question we would have been better in year 1 without the change. Year two we made a nice leap under Kruger back to around where we would have likely been under Capel. Nothing radical in that line of thinking.

Anyway, we are where we are now and starting this next season we will see if progress has been made or if we're treading water. One thing we do know is that nobody has jumped in to hire Capel so that reveals something.

You continue to amaze me

Nobody will touch Capel with a ten foot pole because of the fraud he's been exposed as. Here's what we know he can do:

--He can ruin a once proud program by getting them put on probation
--He can take advantage of a once in a decade talent(Griffin) and ride his coattails to a hefty raise
--He can make friends with McDonald's AAs, but not come close to signing them
--He can coach abhorrently pathetic defense

I'll stop here because I have better things to do. But you get the picture...

Duke touched Capel with a 10 foot pole. I'm not sure how good their basketball program is though...

Except one of the best coaches in basketball history...

I'm not saying he is a good head coach but he obviously has some positives. I think he will get another chance and be better in the future.

Thought we were talking about HC jobs not his "dad".

lol

Coach K hired him to sit at the end of the bench. From head coach at OU, to third assistant at Duke. Telling indeed.

you said nobody would touch him.

Sorry but a program like Duke isn't going to add somebody onto their bench that is a fraud and useless just because.

He was a failure at OU and as a HC as OU. He did a decent job at VCU. Coach K thinks enough of him that he felt he could be an asset on the bench.

Facts are facts.
