I would think that Cyclone fans are looking forward to next season, as a lot of experience returns. Only players that averaged more than 10 minutes per game are listed below.

Scoring Returning from 2014-15
PPG ... Player (Class Next Season) height, weight (Minutes per game)

15.3 ... Georges Niang (Senior) 6-8, 230 (30.7 mpg)
11.9 ... Monte Morris (Junior) 6-2, 170 (33.9)
11.0 ... Jameel McKay (RS-Senior) 6-9, 215 (27.2)
10.1 ... Naz Long (Senior) 6-4, 210 (27.5)
_5.8 ... Abdel Nader (RS-Senior) 6-6, 230 (16.4)
_4.9 ... Matt Thomas (Junior) 6-4, 195 (15.3)

Scoring Lost/Graduating from 2014-15
PPG ... Player

10.5 ... Bryce Dejean-Jones (6-6, 210)
_9.3 ... Dustin Hogue (6-6, 220)

Iowa State should once again battle for one of the top spots in the conference race. Maybe nallen34 can share more of his outlook with us, as the list above does not include any new players added to the roster.

I'm already picking them to win the conference next year. I'm bettinng they are the coach's and media pick also.

Should be OU and ISU (and of course Kansas) if Buddy comes back.

Anybody else have a legit chance? WVU lost Staten right?

lol

I'd want to see how KU closes their class first, but I'd be pretty shocked if ISU won the league over KU next year. Matter of fact, I think OU has at least an equally good shot at dethroning KU as ISU does, though I still think KU will be the favorite.

They're my pick as of right now too. The streak has to end at some point.

they will be very good no doubt .. but they did lose 2 of the top 6 ..

So do we and OU doesn't have the talented bench that ISU did this year.

I'd like a little bit of whatever you guys are taking to think we have a chance to win it all next year.

What next year is going to be different from the 2013-2014 season?

KU or ISU

then OU, Baylor(returns alot!), WVU

Everyone else...UT, OSU, KSU, TT, TCU

They also have someone redshirting this year. Good chance they add another transfer as well.
But Kansas is only losing oubre. Maybe Alexander and they aren't done recruiting. Kansas wins again.

Woodard, Cousins, Hield, and Spangler will all be a year older and more experienced. The latter 3 will be playing their senior years, thus the added effort of wanting to finish on top. Walker will have a year of D1 ball under his belt. We'll replace Booker with Odomes, James, and Buford. We'll replace Thomas with Buford, Manyang, and McNeace. DEPTH.

I don't see OU turning into Duke overnight, but I think we could be roughly the same team with more consistency. We were a few plays away from an Elite 8 this year.

I'd actually pick us 3rd but I think it won't be decided until late in the season. If KU adds an Oubre type difference maker, I reserve the right to change my pick. Oubre was the difference and who put them over us and ISU this season, IMO.

Well, let's hope ISU doesn't just mail it in when they get into the tournament next year. Like they did this year.

Experience should bring more maturity, strength, and savvy.
Consistent effort will go a long way in getting better results.
Added depth can greatly help in getting consistent effort.

After just finishing tied for 2nd place in the conference, both OU and ISU could have these factors going for them next season.

We will definitely be a factor...

I agree.

I said 2013-2014 not 14-15 if you noticed.

Next year we either go small lineup with Buford (like Cam) and or big with Lattin/Manyang (Bennett)

But do you really think the depth next year is going to be any better than we had in 13-14 with Hornbeak, Neal, Booker, Bennett?

Yeah the core-4 have improved but only Hield dramatically improved production this past season. I think we pretty much know and can expect from Woodard, Cousins, Spangler.

Yeah we were a few plays away from elite 8 and not to discount the success of this past years team but they beat a 14 seed Albany team that had a miracle shot to get into tourny (OU earned the 3 so playing 14 is deserved!) but then they got to play a limited 12 seed Dayton team and it was a very close game. Then we lost to a 7 seed (yeah they beat Lville but Lville also had a weak path cuz of Nova upset and they were missing their 2nd best player who got booted).

If we get a path like that again, it would be crazy but that kind of luck only happens so often IMO. Some luck combined with skill creates seasons like this past one.

Baylor rode a similar favorable path to the elite 8 a few years ago if I remember

Yes, I think James, Odomes, Walker, Buford, McNeace, and Lattin will outperform the four guys you mentioned. Absolutely.

Another question is does it matter? What if OU doesn't have better depth than 2014 but has a better starting five, especially defensively.

I agree that the bench will be better but I disagree with a position that it necessarily has to be better for OU 2016 to be better than OU 2014.

I agree, ISU will be an early favorite to contend for a Big 12 title. They don't lose anyone from this year's team they can't easily replace. If Buddy returns, I think it will be one heck of a battle between KU, ISU and OU for the top spot.

KU loses Oubre, and likely Alexander, but Self will do his usual reload act in recruiting and the Jayhawks will be tough again. If Buddy comes back, I think the Sooners will be ranked no worse than the top three in the pre-season.
