March Madness and Covid-19

You realize we're doing more testing than the rest of the world, right?

When your positivity rate is as high as ours is, 12%, then it’s not enough. It could be worse, Brazil’s positivity rate is an incredible 36%.

you realize it's not a contest? many countries had their crap together enough to isolate areas off by testing sewage outlet plenums. pool testing is a great timesaver. but that requires centralization too and thats what you guys are so opposed to. that argument is pointless.

I’m not really sure you want to compare us to the EU.

I was out on vacation and just catching up.

How does the us positive text % compare to the EU?

It all goes back to not having a national plan in place to fight the pandemic. Letting every state just do what they want is idiotic.

My state and our country is getting its collective ass kicked by this virus. It's embarrassing. So many countries in east Asia made the tough, hard choices from the beginning and turned the tide on Covid-19. Not us. Not the good, old USofA.

From the top on down, this is a complete failure of communication and leadership.

I hear this a lot.

Can you give details on what you would have done differently?

Today 30.5 million Americans (out of 328 million total or 9.4%) are receiving employment assistance money of some kind. At this same time last year that number was 3.5 million. That's how many people are DOCUMENTED to be suffering financially. By contrast in 1933 at the height of the great depression that number was 15 million (out of 125 million total or 12%). Things are bad and according to the new curve we havent seen the worst yet.

I'm confused. It seems like you are wanting to shut everything down again but also mocking how back the economy is right now

With 32,000 new cases in a week with nearly 5,000 new hospitalizations, I guess he had no choice... I am still surprised he did this though. I didn't see closing again as a real possibility.

Of course, according to Trump logic, if they didn't do any testing then nobody in Texas would have it. The numbers would look so great, so beautiful, so perfect, if only people weren't tested.

If we didn't track poverty, nobody would poor.... If we didn't track unemployment numbers, everyone would be employed... My wife was totally not pregnant at all until she took that damn test... Then bam, she was pregnant.

You realize you are making his point for him right? He wasn't being serious about it. Can you stop being dishonest about his quotes? Some of them are ridiculous, but taking everyone out of context is just dishonest

He was being serious. When asked about it he said he wasn’t joking.

congratulations! then you're just a heartless dick for no reason. your family must be really proud!!

hillcrest hospital in tulsa announced their ICU is full and they are diverting patients.

personal attack!!!!

Good link. Shows how fake news can influence us.

Hospitals are full!!! shut everything down!!!

According to data released by the Texas Medical Center, the Houston-area ICUs are currently at 100% capacity with less than a third of those patients having COVID-19.

Still, CEOs from four leading hospitals in the medical center say they’re prepared to handle surge capacity.

“There is not a scenario, in my opinion, to where the demand for our beds, especially ICUs, ventilators, PPE, etcetera, would eclipse our capability,” said Mark Wallace, the President and CEO of Texas Children’s Hospital said.

oh wait

Our government has made mistakes before.....wmds in Iraq was the last big one that I can think of.

But trump had weeks and months to prepare a response to the epidemic. And he had all of the intelligence agencies working for him in order to prepare a rational response.

What did he do????? He had to know that whatever he did, it was going to slow down or shut down the economy. And that's all he had to run on...so he hoped it wouldn't be too bad if he just ignored it. Remember his response when he was told that the virus was coming....."Can't we just let it take its course?". That was his idea, and thankfully Fauci assured him that hundreds of thousands of us would die. So he started out in the hole because he refused to act. And his inaction caused many deaths. China and some of the surrounding countries had much better outcomes than we have.

I'm sure that when China shut down the Wuhan Province, that some of his "experts" were telling him something is bad wrong in China, and that he should prepare for the worst.

His response has been one of the biggest clusters I can remember. And I can remember back to the Kennedy assassination.

So blame whoever you want....I feel confident in my assertion that trump has the onus on him to convince me otherwise.

Your dear savior Fauci was also telling people in the US not to worry early on. Why does he get a pass and Trump doesn't?

ProTip: when your positivity rate is over 10% that means your testing is woefully inadequate.

You seem to be really harping on that we need more testing but then you can't admit that this more testing causes more positives.

You can't have your cake and eat it too

More testing does not “cause” more positives. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. If you’re testing enough people then your positivity rate goes down.
