March Madness and Covid-19

So you're saying that Trumps:

  • Actions
  • Stances
  • Words
  • Policies
  • Practices
  • Behavior
  • and overall response to the pandemic

Didn't lead to any conditions that resulted in any deaths?

Is that what you are saying?

I’m saying that there are other factors to consider, such as the overall health of a population. America has had a pandemic of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, for a while now. Those are contributing factors. Also, every American government response has not done a good job because of the layers of bureaucracy. We have a long history of failed responses. Hell, Obama completely ignored H1N1 but he was lucky not good, that it didn’t become so bad here.

You constantly blame 1 man for all our troubles and ignore the other people in our government that are dead weight or openly fighting against everything the administration does. That also makes the response slower and truncated. If they would all work together, the response would be better. Unfortunately, the dems have viciously fought against trump from day 1. They never even tried to work with the administration. They gladly attempt to sabatoge everything, including the response to this pandemic.

It’s ignorant and disingenuous to blame 1 man for all of our problems, but you do it every day.

This is football related, but the SEC as of today has moved to a 10-game conference only schedule. Season openers to be played Sept. 26th. That leaves the Big 12 as the only P-5 conference attempting to play a full schedule with non-conference schedule. Thus, our much anticipated game with Tennessee has been canceled.

Having said that, the big 12 is holding an emergency meeting this afternoon to determine what they going to do as far as scheduling. The main issue that the Big 12 has is that it only has 10 teams....so it can only play 9 conference games. Thus the discussion is likely around whether or not we play a full conference schedule + 1 game. We shall see.

News coming out that the administration thought they could do more to help with Covid-19, but politically thought it would hit democratic areas worse (big cities) so they wanted to gain political points by making the virus worse in those areas. Apparently Jared Kushner designed a national response, national testing plan, contact-tracing, etc similar to what was done in other countries, but they scrapped it thinking it would hurt blue states more.

You can see that in their political strategy too... Commonly attacking blue states, blue cities, etc as poorly run.

If there is any truth to this, the administration has blood on its hands and this would be considered impeachable, in my opinion.

Most troubling of all, perhaps, was a sentiment the expert said a member of Kushner’s team expressed: that because the virus had hit blue states hardest, a national plan was unnecessary and would not make sense politically. “The political folks believed that because it was going to be relegated to Democratic states, that they could blame those governors, and that would be an effective political strategy,” said the expert.

Treating the coronavirus as a blue-state problem was a fairly widespread approach in the West Wing."

c'mon abd

So Trump's administration had a plan that would help the US have a similar response to other countries but we didn't implement it because it would have hurt blue states more? How? That makes no sense.

Maybe they are attacking blue states because, I don't know, they have had by far the majority of deaths? Or by stupidly putting sick patients in nursing homes?

No, the reporting is saying that they had a plan to respond in a more effective way like other countries did, but DIDN'T execute the plan because they thought the virus would hit democratic areas harder, thus making them look bad.

Which means they thought it was politically better for them (the Trump administration) to let the virus be worse in Democratic states and cities.

that is utter rubish and makes no logical sense or political sense.
If trump wants to gain votes, he would want the blue states to respond better under his supervision...not have worse results.

I started reading the vanity fair article...maybe the plan went poof because the tests that they ordered from china were crap?

Florida now has hundreds of people dying per day.... 257 deaths today, 253 yesterday, 252 the day before that.

That's a lot of bodies, people. Not good. Florida is turning into a cluster.

This is the democratic playbook 101. Lesson #1 accuse your enemies of the same things you’re doing. The dems lie, and lie, and then lie some more. They lie and immediately accuse everyone else of lying. They steal and accuse others of stealing. The act like fascists and accuse everyone else of fascism. They deliberately encourage violence and riots and claim they’re peaceful. They deliberately try to destroy jobs, destroy businesses, and destroy the economy just to win an election and blame it all on someone else.

Tonya Harding has a big family.

It's not like this has not been witnessed before.

They are nowhere near what New York endured.

What occurred in NY mostly occurred during sheltering. Florida has the same population base and fewer deaths during non sheltering.

Common sense would reveal you get more fatalities while not sheltering and less when sheltering.

Florida was also a destination of people fleeing the northeast and it is not out of the realm of reality to believe travelers brought the problem to the state.

What does New York have to do with Florida? I am not talking politics... Just reporting death numbers. You don't have to rush to defend the GOP at every turn.

What you are seeing is nothing new is the point. There was no point made by me which allows you to unleash your senseless diatribe unless, of course, it's just how you roll. I am not defending anyone here.

An observation was made. The following is an observation "Florida has more professional teams than New York." This is not political but just an observation which duly applies to my previous statements about Florida and New York.

Now that mainstream press is picking this up, and elected officials are officially condemning it, they are taking a mild risk here if its not true. I would have rather seen an investigation first. It's a pretty wild accusation.

I was told the Germans were doing this better than us. Is this also Trumps fault?

Not sure a virus cares that it's being protested. I think we are all pretty tired of this though. I know I am.

I was telling my wife yesterday that one of the things I miss most is taking our toddler to the zoo and aquarium. We had memberships to both places, and it was part of our weekend routine. He loves riding the train at the zoo, seeing the animals, running around, and getting good and worn out!

Those places are open but we haven't been going because of all this.

I bought some Pre-K instructional material that we do with him every day as well. It's basically all the content one would learn in Pre-K, and we are going through it with him. He's not getting the social interaction, which I think is really important, but at least we are working on something academic with him this summer.
