Marcus smart just hit a fan!

Where did you go to law school. How many Supreme Court Opinions on Speech have you read? I went to OU and have read lots of them.

Then you need to take a class in reading comprehension

If Jeff Orr is banned from TTU games for using racial slurs, I hope he challenges it in the courts. I think he will lose.

Any organization selling tickets to a sporting event has an obligation to ensure the safety of all those attending the event, especially the players. That said, I believe using racially-charged language to insult players (and spectators) is inflammatory and a threat to the safety of attendees and players.

Freedom of speech is a right that does not include inflammatory speech that could endanger the public, like yelling "Fire!" In a movie theater. I think this is different than standing on a public street corner and uttering offensive/imflammatory speech.

That is by far the best argument set forth to restrict this speech. I think it would lose in the Supreme Court.

Is the press conference going to be televised?

Sure you are. You want him to lose his right to attend an event of a public entity based on what he said. That is taking action based on the content of his speech.

I dot want him to lose his ability ( it's not a right) to attend games. I never sai I thought he should. But I think ( or know) that tech has the right to refuse him tickets. And I never said he shouldn't be able to say whatever he wants at the game... Just that there could be consequences

Metta World Peace as a peacemaker? That's a far cry from the player we knew as Ron Artest when he went after a fan in the stands in Detroit when the man threw beer on him. But a guy who has been there may be the best source for advice Marcus Smart will ever find. Hope he listens to what MWP has to say in this interview:

(Joking) If you threw a beer at me, I probably would put you in a chokehold right now. And then we would go get some ice cream later, but I would probably tell you how much of an (expletive) you were.

I've never understood the whole acceptance of fans acting that way in the first place. You can cheer on your team and jeer the other while still exhibiting at least a modicum of sportsmanship.

Boo them in the heat of the moment but be ready to help them up, brush them off, and tell them "good hustle" if they fall into the crowd with you. It's a damn game.

I know it was a sore subject, but that was the brunt of what Kelvin and his wife were saying about the whole "Texas Sucks" thing. IMO they were picking a bad fight because that particular phrase has a tradition.

But I would like to watch games in an arena where fans who treat players in that manner, calling them names and the like, are ejected. Buying a ticket doesn't give you the right to act like an a$$.

I am not excusing Smart though. You can't do what he did.

The Westboro case gives this fat racist hick the right to stand outside the arena with a "go back to Africa" sign.

Texas Tech has every right to refuse him entry into the arena since there are multiple instances of him causing trouble. Anybody with even the slightest knowledge of the law understands this simple distinction.

For the love will somebody please show me where in the past he has caused trouble? I've seen two videos and neither show any of the sort

Something I just noticed...the blonde lady behind Orr patted him on the back after the incident. She heard nothing out of line???

Unless Orr admits to what he said this may forever be a "he said" episode.

The refs were standing right there. Interesting to see what they report.

ESPN reported last night that the official who called the technical claims he didn't hear what Orr said due to the crowd noise. I was hoping one of the officials or an unbiased party heard it, because no one will believe the Tech fans sitting nearby, nor should they.

Talk about a melee. Larry Brown, when he was a player, makes Marcus Smart look like a wuss.
