M'Baye named Preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year

Good to see Pledger and Osby make HM as well. Having 3 All-Big XII type performers on one team should set up for a good year (or one would hope).

The honorable mention list is missing a few solid players. Korie Lucious(he's the only player thats been on 2 final 4 teams); No love for West Virginia's players...Deniz Kilicli and Aaric Murray.

Other than that, it looks like some solid players.

Royce White was voted Preseason Newcomer of Year last season, I'd take about half of that production. Interesting tidbit from that article was Victor Avilla being a former Preseason Newcomer of Year last season, I had forgotten that.

:clap:clap:clap

I totally agree!

nash on the preseason first team is a joke and markel brown should be on the HM not smart

From the way people are talking on here you would think Smart is...

I like how the wealth of talent seems to be spread around this year, with no team, particularly KU, dominating the preseason picks. It's also nice to see three Sooners on this year's list.

???

Why is Nash being on their a Joke? He has potential to be Big 12 POY.

he averaged 13.3 points on sub .400 shooting .235 from 3 (taking over 2 a game) and was an average FF shooter and despite playing big min at the 4 averaged 5 boards a game and was not a good defender

Osby averaged 12.9 and 7.3 on .490 shooting .389 from 3 and was an average FF shooter .. but a much better defender ...

who was the better player .. it wasn't close ... and Osby will be the better player again this season

Being an HM B12 isn't exactly flying under the radar or anything, but if I was picking a team of known commodities RO would be high on my list.

I think Ro is going to have a big year, something along the lines of Aaron McGhee's senior season.

IF he's that good, Pledger and Fitz tie their best seasons, M'Baye is really the Big 12 NOY and the Freshman can contribute off the bench some, this team stands to be really good.

If you think about it, they have similar games, size, situations. In a lot of ways, Ro is like a JC transfer. Their SR seasons are usually much better than their JR seasons.

Ro doesn't have the offensive game that Ace had. Ace was the best player in the country the last 2 or so months of his senior year. Inside, outside (range out to the three point line), I just don't see Ro having THAT kind of year. Honestly, with the addition of M'Baye and the other guards, I expect a very similar season to what he did last year.

If he can carry over his play from the end of last season I'd be very satisfied with that result. As far as McGee, look how much he benefited from being pretty much the lone ranger on the post to having a raw but athletic Jahbari Brown being out there with him. Based on what I have seen in highlights and I will always defer to those who have seen him practice, but with M'Baye we are basically adding a RO if not better athlete, that can only help.

Ro is a better rebounder and defender. I think his offensive game will expand bc I think he has the skill. He might not have McGhee's post game but Ro can knock jumpers at a good rate out the the 3 line. I agree his numbers might not go up that much. I think he won't have to play as many minutes due our depth but I think he will be more efficient when he is out there. I think he also benefits greatly with the addition of M'Baye and possible contributions of the bench from Bennett and a hopefully improved Aren't.
